Got your order! Thanks for the support.Just ordered 2 sets of scratch and dent ones as preventative measures. With my back two doors not getting used much I’d rather be proactive before this issues begins! Thanks for a great product on these!
Door Limiter Reinforcement Plates
These are my #1 best-selling product as of 5/2/24 (sold 52 sets so far).
There are two basic solutions/kits here:
1. Prevention
2. Repair

1. Prevention
The root cause of this problem is the door limiter, or door "check" according to Toyota. 68630-60051 and 68640-60050 are the rear door check assemblies for the 1998-2002 Land Cruiser and LX470. The design was changed for the 2003+ model years reducing the ramp angle of the check (less force required to close the door). I have a "door limiter upgrade kit" in the works- just waiting for some parts to arrive from Japan.
First noticeable symptoms include small cracks forming in the door sheet metal around the 2x 10mm nuts often accompanied by loud creaking noises when opening and closing the rear doors. DO NOT WAIT- once the cracking starts it only takes a few times before the sheet metal gives way completely!

As one closes the door, pressure is applied by the 10mm nut flanges onto the thin metal. Stress fractures begin to form, then expand rapidly. The reinforcement plates are sandwiched between the door and the nuts. This effectively adds surface area to the flanged nuts which increases the area of force being applied to the sheet metal door frame.

Installation of the plates is extremely straight forward:
- Remove 2x 10mm nuts (on door)
- Remove 1x 10mm bolt (in vehicle body)
- Slide reinforcement plate over the limiter into place
- Replace 10mm nuts (44 in-lbs.)
- Replace 10mm bolt (20 ft-lbs.)
2. Repair
After the doors have completely cracked through there's little-to-no right way to fix them other than taking the vehicle to a body shop or welding the door back together. I created the bare metal version of these plates so that DIYers can attempt to repair the doors without having to measure and cut new pieces of sheet metal. These are made of the same 4130 chromoly steel as the powder coated version.

Other notes and threads:
I do also sell "Scratch & Dent" plates which have failed my QC inspection (either poor packing from the manufacturer or flaws in the powder coat). A quick rattle-can will give these a second chance at life.

I’ve had no definitive proof that the front doors suffer from this problem but I also installed a set on my personal 1999 LX470 if that helps…Once I get my order in I'll get a set of these. Would you recommend a pair for the rears only? Or 2 pairs for all 4 doors?
Awesome. Got your message about the ‘06 LC bit- that’s quite helpful, thanks!Just FYI, your stock of u-joints just went down a bit.....![]()
I install a set of these plates on the rear doors of any 100 Series that comes through my shop for maintenance. Some customers have requested that I install them on the front doors as well- no definitive proof that it's necessary yet but better safe than sorry.
Yes these are a universal fit for the 100 series (both front and rear doors too)All years including 2003+?

I have not personally witnessed a rear door failure on the 2003+ but I’m curious to see if it does become an issue with aging facelift trucks…Earlier in the thread you mentioned the door hardware was revised in 2003 so I guess I’m asking if you recommend these for 2003+ models, or if you mostly use them for the earlier ones more prone to this issue.
Put another way - have you seen doors fail in the later, revised hardware models? Thanks!
