So what is the craziest or coolest engine conversion done in a 40 or that you would like to see done?

I want to see someone put this motor in either it's gas or diesel version.

GMC Big Block V6 Engines

Thats's easy...search "Jagota".

I once put a 2F adapted to 700R4 into my FJ45. This set-up would have given Joe average citizen three problems to overcome, so we didn't put this adaption package on the market.

454 in a 45, he uses it for a tow rig.

If I had unlimited funds, I would put a Yanmar 6LPA in an FJ40. They are light, quiet and make a ton of power.

Oleg at Irbis Offroad is doing a Toyota Tacoma 3.4 V6 conversion on a friends FJ40 right now. Should be pretty cool when it's done. :)

Ok the jaguar and the audi one are what I am looking for... how about some old school stuff like that GMC V-6... I like the Yanmar idea... Come on people you are a bunch of back yard engineers, there has to be some crazy engine that you would want to see in a 40. Keep it realistic though... have to fit in the current space. Hell if this guy can do this YouTube - 48 Cylinder Bike on a motorcycle there has to be something crazy our there that you want to do.

I ran into a guy, at CM '00, who was my trail leader for Behind The Rocks run. We chatted about his conversion cuz I was thinkin about doin the same swap. He's out of Utah & has or had a shop at the time. He runs the GM 351 V-6. I got a chance, back at camp, to go over his conversion. He said it was a torque monster, heavy & a gas guzzler. It was big block sized & replacement parts may be a problem down the road, so that pretty much closed the book on my

I'd like to see the VW Touareg V-10 diesel swapped in, mated to an NV4500 + Atlas 2 :smokin: Don't get me started on the axles ;p

Yeap that is a GMC V-6. They had so much torque that they were used in Minute Man missile carriers. They are not scheduled for a major overhaul until 200,000 miles. I would have loved to have driven that monster.

Honeywell T53-L703 Turboshaft engine. Dealing with the 6600 output rpm might be a challenge, but I'm still stuck on how to deal with 1700 horsepower.

The guys at Capsco have one in a flat bottom that'l melt waterskiers.

I don't know who this belongs to but it looks to be a T53:

Second thought, it might be a bit hard on windshield rubber.

That Jaguar V12 was the first one that came to mind for me. I wouldn't do it, but he did a good job.

You would probably have to upgrade to fine spline pinions for the conversion.

My buddy and I are currently putting the finishing touches on a '78 FJ40 named the "Monster Cruiser". It started out as the biggest cruiser in camp but now is equal to a couple others. 4" lift, 33x12.5's, Saginaw power steering and a 1972 Buick 455 Rocket. Take it from me, it is not worth all of the "opportunities" to install this one, pick a 396 or something you can actually get parts for. The unique factor is high with this one though.

No problem: serial hybrid turbine elecric, but with some decent batteries it could be done with a much smaller turbine.

Well lookat this, I made the list. Thanks guys.

I remember yaers ago there was a 40 with a 426 Hemi. Wonder what ever happened to that one?

I would like to see a Duramax in one.

No I don't have any plans on doing one. But if someone should come up with one they don't need, I would be tempted.

Well, he use to use it as a tow rig until he bought a cummins diesel dodge truck. Much better fuel economy.
