Ryan at OTRAMM had suspected the temperature spikes could be coming from a steam "pocket" (my analogy) that was traveling its way through the system due to low coolant. Coolant in the reservoir with hose hooked up properly?
Level at the top of the radiator when cap removed?
Possibly an air bubble forming then moving around?
Either way this is not a common issue. Please keep the board informed with what you find.

Yes. There is quite a bit of foam blocking material around the intake manifold.Is all that yellow stuff foam?
No clue. anything i say would just be a guess.And the only way to get rid of it is to remove the intake. That's gotta be holding the heat in. Does it stop the mice from making a home? What is the reason the foam is there?
This thread has inspired (scared) me to see if I can get my borescope under the intake manifold to see if I have any pink crusties. I'll probably go in by the PCV valve.
I read of it happening with a few tundras and some of the 5.0L V8’s in the F line of Lexus cars (ISf etc)The foam blocks keep noise in, and dirt and rodents (for a while anyway) out. With the shape of that area I think it would get filled with dirt if there wasnt anything blocking the way.
As for holding heat in.. I guess? But it shouldn’t be getting to any temperatures it isn’t easily designed for. The fact that not all of these leak suggests it’s some kind of production issue. Is it as common on tundras? Weren’t those engines produced in a different location?
truck is all back together. Minus a small coolant leak from a line on the external oil cooler, everything seems happy. Temps are steady at 185*f
Blackstone oil test kits is on the way so getting an oil test is next on the list to see if there’s any cooling in the oil.
Pm sentIf you don't mind me asking, what was the final bill (or at least how many hours were billed) to get it sorted out? My dealer wouldn't budge on the book rate of 11 hrs when I called for a quote, so I'm currently exploring various other options.
Not sure if they are coolant line, but either way, I'd be all for swapping any/all associated hoses while in there.Looking at the post #51 pic I see two black hoses going across the back of the engine. Are they coolant hoses, and is there any reason to maybe change them out?

Some kind of hard plastic if memory serves.Are they rubber lines or just rubber coated ?
