SO I had the privilege of working on this cruiser a couple weeks ago sorting out a mess of a TBI system.

Thought I'd see if you can tell me what the year of the cruiser and the motor is from these two pictures.

Winner gets a dash mounted dome light switch.

So here are the pics. Enjoy.

78 cruiser
73 engine

1978 FJ40
1974 F motor

Those are fork lift dash switches? I bought a fork lift light off E-bay that has that exact switch. Made by same company that made the one on my 1971.

78 cruiser with 71 motor with 2f valve cover and early tstat housing

Bingo!

Very good. Very good indeed.

Pretty sure I have your address. Maybe it will get there this time without an empty package.;)

So how did you come up with that?

Dunno. Who was the company that made your switch?

Sure looks to be the correct switch. How much was it?

That engine my have been built in 71 but the model year would have been 72. The 71 model still have the oil fill tube on the passenger's side (68-71 model F145) The 72/73 F155 have the oil fill in the valve cover and the spin on oil filter mounted to the intake manifold. The 74 F155 have the later oiling system with spin on oil filter on the passenger's around the fuel pump.

The that windshield washer bottle started with the 78 model. The brake booster ended with the 80 model. Still looking to narrow it down to 78

If the stock wirings was still on the blower motor that would have told. The plug style changed between 78 and 79.

F manifold(68-74), LH oil filter, lack of oil fill tube, holes in head for alt bracket. Could be a 72 as well.

Pre late 80 booster, carb fan and coolant reservoir make it late '77 or newer.other misc clues made me guess '78.

Looks like the company logo is TR? I paid $1.00 for the entire light. ;) $9.00 to ship. HEAVY metal housing, nice reflector and of course the new switch.

I originally thought it was a 72 also. Until I ran the serial number.

Oddly enough the owner bought this vehicle a year ago thinking it had the 78 2f in it. He was never told it had a different early motor in it. Heck the Toyota dealership he bought it from probably didn't even know. Most wouldn't have even thought twice when purchasing this cruiser and think there was something up with the motor. Ran great and has a 4speed. It was when he brought over the side cover for me to mark where it needed to be modified for the 60 series distributor that I knew there was a potential issue. He said he was affraid to dent it because he didn't want to mess up the little copper pipe behind it. He got a really strange look from me right after that comment.

You got a heck of a deal considering SOR sells them for $29 each. Me I'm selling mine for $5 shipped. My understanding is the later ones with the post and not the wire screws are the rare ones as the early ones can still be had. Ironically the early ones are what everyone wants.
