Ya Id like to run both, although there is that whole money thing that holds me back

If Im lucky Ill have it rolling this week :meh: but there will be a few other little parts to the build that might make it interesting...

Oh yeah, the CB was a freebie, so thats part of the reason im installing it.

Also, now that I dont need the trans cooler for the A440, Im thinking about running some sort of cleaner through it and using it to heat water, i.e. for a warm shower.

I already have a shower kit from Bass Pro that includes a 12 volt pump and a shower head, so i would need to build a vertical rod and a ring with a shower curtain, then build a mount off the front bumper, then get some hose and quick release fittings. I would probally bring an empty container and fill it with lake or creek water, then would run it through the cooler to warm it with the coolant.

Does anyone know if this has been done and if it works well?

Also I am going to be rewiring the mess in the engine compartment somewhat, and will be running a disconnect switch on the dash, for a few reasons, to avoid draining the batteries, anti-theft device, and another kill switch. So I will be buying a bit of cable, although it wont disconnect the starter or winch, though I may run a separate one for the winch at a later date.

Edit: got the new air bags and lowered bumpstops in, and got the disconnect switch lined up.

Cody.

Also got the clutch master cylinder mounted, used some nutserts and stainless 1/4" hardware.

I deleted the valves the PO had to connect right and left air bags together, as i have installed separate switches to control them individually.

Can not wait to see it finished!

Thanks! Me Too!

A little progress, Ive been working on re-wiring, its been very tedious and motivation robbing, so I switched it up and got the trans bolted on, had to cut out a bit of trans hump, and used some grommet material from Ian's 60 to line the rough edges, so as to not scratch up my arm when tightening the top bolts.

Also repainted the second battery tray as it was in rough shape, it was built by the PO and some of the welds were kinda ugly.

I re-attached the airlines to get the truck up, The Tie rod between the knuckles was almost on the oil pan, I needed to jack the front of the motor to get the rear of the motor to drop a bit to get the trans in easier, so I had to lift it up a bit, pic is with 37's, 11" clearance to top of wheel well in the back, with more lift possible in the front. The light reflection on the window is right at 6 feet.

Here's a pic of the new (60 series) pedal installed, Ill see how it feels, and if I want to narrow the brake and move the clutch over.

Also my gauge pod im finally getting around to wiring in, it has boost and pyro, and finally a pic of the floor cut out.

R the flares gonna come off?

R the flares gonna come off?

dont think I'll pull them off till they get mangled, I actually kind of like them..

Anyone know if using the trans cooler attached to the Rad will make enough heat for onboard shower BTW??

Anyways, back to work.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. My transmission temperatures (measured coming out of the transmission, so not directly comparable) usually settle in around 70C, so it could get pretty hot in that heat exchanger. Try it out and let us know!

when its up & running ill try it out. ;p

Well, started on the crossmember, ill be modifying and re-using the stock crossmember, i notched it, folded it, lengthened it and cut most of the top half off. Tomorrow I will weld on some rectangular tube and scabricate some mounts for the bushings.

I also need the rear driveshaft lengthened and the front chopped $$$

The console will have some alloy checker plate rivot'ed on to hide the holes and make provisions for new shifter boots. I got the new shifters built and installed, ill post some pics tomorrow.

I will be cutting the shifter console in half and widening it, I like my air bag controls where they are but didnt have enough room for shifters and the controls, so ill widen the whole thing 1.5" to get the best of both.

Hopefully tomoroow ill have most of the shifter console done and the crossmember finished, plus pick up some materials to finish up most of the rest.

I called White Face Gauges - Custom Gauges - Your Auto Gauge Specialist today to custom order a gauge face that has the rpm range in the diesel band, with kilometers as the primary display on the speedo, and "diesel fuel only" instead of "unleaded fuel only" it will probably be a month or so to custom build and ship it here, but it should be sweet!

Cant wait till its back on the road!

well today had a late start, though I found somewhere to take the driveshafts to in calgary that apparently has decent pricing.

Heres some pics of the trans hump cover I started building using 1/16" alloy plate.
Cut some holes in it, used some grommet from Ian's parted out 60, and some tire tube to help keep the noise and goop out.

Some pics of the crosssmember im building/modifying.

Since I removed a bunch of the top and bent what was remaining Ive welded on some tube, tomorrow I will build the brackets for the bushings and paint the thing, maybe even bolt it on.

Well a little bit of progress, I got the interior almost buttoned up, Ive attached some pics of what I did to the center console to get it house the shifters and of the airlines for the airbags. Also a picture of the crossmember bolted up.

Ive been working on the electrical and it is slow and time consuming. Actually its interesting how I can start working on the electrical end with a plan of keeping everything clean and easy to access, and before im half way through it its just about getting it running

Well I just picked up some transmission fluid as I spilled a fair bit while moving it around.

The Nv4500 has a very specific gear oil it uses, castrol syntorq LT GL-4, I picked some up at the GM dealership, $32/ 946ml. Thats getting close to the price of good liquor...

For anyone looking for this specific lube or gear oil the GM part # in the USA is P/N 12346190, the canadian equivalent part number is 10953477, here's a link to more info on this: About the special oil needed for the NV4500... - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

Now, what kind of gear oil do I need for the split case? I looked in the 60 section FAQ and all I got was GL-4, anyone know what weight it requires?

Hey Tapage,
They are known as quick connects, they connect the tubing by just pressing the tubing into them, you can release the tubing by pushing the blue part in and pulling the tubing out. They arent as good as barbed hose fittings, but Ive had a hard time finding barbed hose fittings so They'll have to do.

ITS ALIVE!!!

I got it to the point where I could fire it up! It hasnt run in months, but I got most of the engine compartment finished, still have to do the compressor, but it is running again.
Tomorrow it maybe on the pavement again if all goes well.

Any ways I like pics so heres a couple...

The cherokee fuse panel I added, it supports the electric vacume pump, glow plugs w/relay, alternator relay, starter relay. with a littlerroom to spare, maybe for those big hella's I got laying around.

Next is whats been keeping me distracted...

Were turbo'ing Ian's BJ60, maybe this week even. We already pulled the oil pan and welded in a bung for the return oil line, and got hose and fittings for the feed. We will be clocking the turbo and building a bracket to support the wastegate. This week Ian already installed and wired the pyrometer, oil and boost pressure gauges, so hopefully we'll get the turbo wrapped in a day or two, but Ill let him start his own thread in the 60 section...

Third pic is the rear bumper replacement I started close to a year ago, now that I finally have my own garage maybe Ill get some more work done, there is two sets here, one for me and one for a friend with a fzj80

There's a big tub of 80-90 GL5 up on the shelf for you. Pretty sure that's what I put in the t-case last time.
Congrats on getting the beast running again. I'll be over Wed night to check it out.
