My wife cannot close the Alu-Cab on her own either and unfortunately with some of the extra weigh we have put in the roof top box, she cannot open it on her own. Plus, when closing with a bit extra weight, the roof comes down fast, so you need too tuck the canvas and get your limbs out of the way.
I think the best option would be to have two sets struts and switch them out depending on the intended use. If you have a local strut shop in the PDX area, you might be able to have them fine tune a set of struts by adding the right amount of pressure to get to dial for you. I don't think I have that luxury in C. Ore
I have worked with a shop in Australia to fine tune the rear door gas struts for what I carry in the rear swing outs and that made all the difference in having enough pressure to hold the door open on a slant and not have it over pressured on opening and want to snap the ball off the mount.
Regarding the All-Cab load bars, I did go with the 'low profile' mounting feet and although they look like just an 'L' bracket, they do hold the load bar just slightly off the mounting rails on the roof, so they don't make contact. I wanted the lowest profile, as I park the Troopy inside the garage. As it turns out, with the final height, I still could've got the Troopy in the garage with the standard mounting feet. The low profile work for me just fine.
