Hello anyone and everyone who could be potentially interested in this group buy. Let me start with the fact that my troopy is a rusty POS, instead of chasing rust that will never truly go away for endless years to come, I think that this would be a much better route to take. A clean fresh slate. Whether you want to put a troopy body on some other cruiser chassis, or also have a rusted-out troopy, I think this is something we should seriously look into.

I've come across this Alibaba Troopy Body. The price seems extremely fair for an entire new body for a troop carrier, I'd go ahead and buy it now but my only issue is that you need to purchase a minimum of 10 to get in that price range. I reached out asking how much it would be just to ship one and they said $7,000 USD. I have no use for 10 troopy bodies, nor the money to purchase/ship that many. That's why I have come here to gauge any interest from fellow cruiserheads.

Now you may be pretty sketched out on the whole Alibaba/Chinese-made part of the deal, and rightfully so. However this seems like a genuinely reputable and respected autobody manufacture, you can view their page here. They went to SEMA in 2022 to showcase the bodies they had made for 40 series. They don't just specialize in older Toyotas, they have old Bronco bodies, Nissans, Land Rovers, etc. If you scroll further down on their website you can see for yourself. They produce new side & rear doors, aswell as fenders for troopys as well if you are looking for just a whole body swap with most of the odds and ends for the body included.

If you watch the video down below on some reproduction Chinese doors they seem overall very pleased with it. One of them said "I would 100% have one on my car"

This post is really just to gauge any interest out there and see if I can build up momentum to actually pull this off. If they offered $7,000 for a single body who knows what they would go down to if we even got even 5 other people on board. If you're interested, please make it known in this thread!

and it begins
😁

Jonathan,

I applaud you for finding this!

I think there a is company here in Temecula California already importing those 40 series parts.

Want me to contact them and see if they can get a troopy body?

...soooooo 20 grand for 10 pieces

...plus let's call it another 20 to ship the lot

...40 grand landed plus some tax

...that might bring worst case to around $5,000 for a "new" Chinesium body

...almost tempting to turn my LJ73 into a Troopy...

the thought crossed my landcruiser addled brain as well

Same company.

These are all the same companies under different names, different “public faces” that engage in different car forums and social media, for different markets, under different LLCs to make sure it’s all plausible.

If you want to triple your cost get them involved ! I am using rear quarter panels from this same manufacture as they are the only ones making these . I reached out to the guys in Cali for wholesale and they quoted me double of what my European dealers are charging .

Btw I have used these quarters and inner fenders for 70 series from them for a while now and while they are not a 100% identical to the original and need a little bit of massaging they are a worthy alternative for us 7x guys and girls as there is simply nothing else .

In Australia there is a big following on putting troopy bodies on 80 frames , then you get the best of 2 worlds and that should be a good project for many people here to get in a relatively cheap troopy with upgraded axles and suspension . If we weren't planning our next move I would be all over this .

You probably can fit 3 bodies in a 45ft container and buy the doors , fenders, hood , front core support etcetera at the same time and put those inside the body . I bet for less then 10K you have a complete troopy body to either start a custom build or restore the crusty one you have .

If you understand anything about Chinese manufacturing, it’s all a big ponzi junk scheme.

These companies have been doing this for years.

All it’s takes is 10 mins of Google Translate and it all comes together.

They just be looking for suckers.

Hello,

x2.

When it comes to quality, Chinesium is questionable at best.

It is worth checking the threads about 40 Series replacement body parts.

Topnault 40 Series tubs do not align with frame bolts/nuts, requiring some serious fabrication. Other parts have had similar problems.

In typical Chinese fashion, the seller apologized for the quality issues, blamed the problem on someone else and came up with long platitudes on how sophisticated their production facilities are.

I would not trust a Chinesium body. The body is a critical component, period.

Do not spend money you cannot afford to lose.
