Back to wheel chat, there is another possibility, and an option on the HJ-61 I think. The aluminum 16" 70 series wheel. I have a set and had not really considered them until seeing a set in a darker grey on an 80 series. The early 80 wheel is a 15" with a different offset (I think) but I love the look of these in the darker color. I think these are (or were) on @SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr awesome 80.
Might be cool with 255/85-16's too

I think they look good in that color and stock aluminium.

Yeah I used to run them but 15x7 was rather limiting. 16” from a Prado would be pretty sweet. Are they any wider?

I did see a pic of the 15” ones refinished in a way that caught my eye.

They look more like what Toyota is doing with modern wheels with machined faces and black to contrast in the lower spots and thought they looked really awesome.

That does look cool, I might try that. The 16" wheels are still pretty narrow, either 6 or 6 1/2" wide but not even sure. If I use them I will go with 255/85-16 tires.

Moving slowly forward!

I got the rear gate and hatch installed, as well as the door latch hardware. I love the zinc plating but sorting pieces and bolts is a pain. Luckily I have complete rusty 87 to use as a reference.
Here's a shot of the gate parts before I realized I had the catches backwards!

I put the modified throttle pedal in and we went for our first ever drive. I was still in low in the video so not much to see. Mainly just a big leap forward for the project!

We went one whole mile. Down the driveway and back
:p

Looks awesome. I hear you on bolt sorting. 🤣🤣🤣

I only have 4 lug nuts on each of the roller wheels, no glass, no seat belts, no lights, 2 bolts in the one seat, and no hood latch. 15 mph in the driveway seemed like plenty.

12HT sounds wicked.

12HT sounds wicked.

i agree that 12ht sounds awesome! I think i need to pull the muffler on my 13bt. :D Mines way too quiet.

@dogfishlake awesome man! Buddy is loving that too!
Finn is too big to sit up front now:frown:, but that’s ok, the sliding windows still work great. You can hear how quiet my 13bt is, although my wife says Finn always knows when I’m coming down the road almost a mile a way.

yeee haw! can't wait to see it in Colorado :)

What did you do for prepping the zinc plating? I've been curious what I could do to make the parts as shiny as possible prior to plating. So far vapor blasting takes the cake.

Thanks man, I am getting excited for the finish.
Finn is a cool dog. It's funny how dogs love sticking their face in that wind. All those smells at once must be like us having the tunes turned up to 11.

Holy sh$tballs...there is not enough beer in the world....that makes my face hurt just looking at it.
Don't discourage him. I was thinking I might show up at the Elf Barn with a bucket full of bolts to see if CD sorts them for me just for fun :p

Sounds amazing! If Cruiser's can have souls, Chunk must be ECSTATIC to be rolling on his own power...Especially with the 12HT
I hope so! That would be a good thing for Chunk and me.

We use a big blast set up with a 185 cfm diesel compressor at the powder coat shop. I cut the top off of a plastic 55 gallon drum and just dumped the bolts in. Then I just point the blaster in there and the bolts fly all over and tumble but can't quite come out of the drum. You can't see anything but you don't need to, I just stop and look every couple of minutes to see if the bolts are clean enough. It probably takes around 5 or so minutes to make a gallon container worth of bolts white clean. They plate up nice from there.

Also it is like a giant game of "Operation". If you touch the sides of the drum right away it shocks the crap out of you from all the static build up in that plastic :wtf:
