Cruisers allover downtown this morning. Saw an 80 pass me too, but didn’t get a pic.

The 60 belongs to my nextdoor neighbor👍
Didn’t look it over for long but from what I can tell seemed to be in pretty nice shape.

Couple of guys from roanoke are starting a local town chapter. Anybody interested in doing the same for C’ville? I see more cruisers here every day. This bay to blue ridge group is just too spread out for any regularity IMO.

I've got the dreaded intake to manifold / heat riser joint leak. So, I'm going to have to rebuild my entire exhaust/intake with new hardware, gaskets, blockoff plate etc.

Does anyone know of a knowledgeable machine shop with a large enough planer to machine the surfaces (that mount to the cylinder head) ..maybe counter drill and counter sink the bolt/stud flanges?

I'm currently checking with API on harris street. I do have a spare used set of manifolds so I can work on this and when it's ready bolt it up to minimize down time.

The machine shop behind the Harrisonburg carquest downtown has done 2F manifolds for me before. I would bet that there is a place in charlottesville, but I don’t know of one specifically.

Any machine shop should be able to do it. Put all your new gaskets on, snug them up, bolt it to the head and then tighten the two together. Take it back off and then go to the machine shop They will do it as one unit.

I think that place on Harris Street is the only Cville shop and I am not sure what they do.
I used to go to an awesome place in Waynesboro but they’re gone now.
The Valley is more “industrial” than Cville.

For non-auto machine work I go to RWA in Ruckersville.
I would call them and ask for a referral.

What about tacking the horns so they don't move? How do you "tack" aluminum to steel? Maybe a pea sized dab of JB Weld?

I ordered the riser block off plate from Cruiser Outfitters to use in place of the riser insulater as a deterent for intake crack below the carb. But my stock insulator is in good shape. So now I'm not sure if I should just re-use it or use the block off plate. Anyone here use the block off plate and does it dramatically affect warm up time here in VA with the cold mornings? Part of me wants to use the block off plate and part of me wants to stay stock

I would use it and not worry about it. I am not sure it will effect it that much.

late reply but I've used J&D on the west side of Staunton to machine a couple of 2f heads and exhaust manifolds.

Do you know if they re-surfaced the exhaust to intake joint at the heater control valve? And if so, how did they go about the exhaust manifold? Due to the contour it won't sit flat on a surface.

I just had the exhaust manifold/cylinder head surface machined. I would be surprised if he couldn't do it. You can probably call him and send him a picture. I think the guy is named Carlton.

BTW, I have Remflex gaskets for the heater riser if you want to try them. I used Remflex on my 40 w/ headers so I didn't need them.

Tried API in Charlottesville spoke with Ronnie Fox ...he is not sure if he can do it. Will have to look at it. I'm not getting a warm feeling.

Calling J&D and pressing 4 for the machine shop ...
Carlton is not picking up. Maybe he's busy machining. I'll keep trying.
I have toyota gaskets enroute from Partsouq but have heard the remflex are more forgiving for pitting and warpage. We'll see what the machinist can do. Thanks I'll keep you in mind.

J & D Machine shop has moved to Waynesboro. Their new phone number is 540 221 2287. The address is 912 Fairfax Ave off 2nd street but access it off Essex Ave ..one street over. He resurfaces the manifolds by putting them on a table belt sander. But said he may be able to spot face the flanges. Not sure but he will try and see if his machine can do it.
