I saw these on "Trucks" some time ago, but I had a hard time finding them before. They reran the show today and I reran my search.

I don't even have a v-8, but these are obviously cool enough to mention.

I found other mentions of them with search, so maybe this is a repost. Chat maybe too...

They look very nice and fit well, but yikes, $320 for plain steel, or $480 for ceramic coated.

My headers are OK, except for some slight interference on the steering box. I'm going to have to move the entire engine/tranny/transfer assembly to the right about 1/4".

When the headers eventually burn out, I'll go to cast iron manifolds. Will probably refinish some used ones.

Has anybody run these before ? I want to buy a set for my Cruiser, want to make sure you know ? I am putting a TBI SBC with Turbo 400 running a JT PS bracket with mini truck PS. Wondering about ps gearbox clearance for heat ? I can only cock the motor over to the passenger side so much because of clearance issues with the driveshaft and trans pan. Anybody's thoughts ?

Those block hugger headers from MAF look remarkably like the ones I have from SOR.

Notice how they are extremely close to the stock steering box.

I have found that headers and PU powersteering in a v-8 have clearance problems. The PS box is larger than a manuel, and unless the engine is set pretty far foward, the box will hit the 3/5 tubes. I could not get the engine set to the passenger side to clear. Ended up using a sbc 305 rams horn style that dumps between the 5 and 7 to clear the ps box.
The long tube over the frame headers mentioned above will not work with PU powersteering. The #5 exhaust tube passes over t he top of the return line with less than 1/2 inch clearance. Cannot get the line into the return port.

I got just about the same thing you have and the ONLY think I could get to fit was Ram Horns. Tried the hugger headers, no fit. I actually had to alter the JT bracket and move the steering gearbox up to get anything to fit. Maybe you'll be luckier than me,

I have a sbc 400 that I'm pulling the wasted headers the p/o installed. I don't have p/s right now, but it is in the plans. So - ram horns are the way to go? Recommendations on the best place to find a set?

I've had good luck with these Hedman Tight Tube Hedders. They should provide more clearance than the typical block hugger because of the flat collector design. About $200 for the SBC painted version from Summit Racing. They also have ceramic coated version for about $400.

Summit Block Header Huggers are $180 with ceramic. Anyone use these? I wonder how much the ceramic helps reduce engine temps.

get rams horns from 1aauto.com and shove 'em on. Keep it simple and save the money you would spend on ceramic coated headers on a power steering conversion later. My .02 cents:grinpimp:

I have to agree. Especially if you you can find then used and cheap (you can). If you want you can have them coated by HPC or someone.

you could build you a set but you have to run the pipes over the box and down the finder

I like the sound of my headers. I have the frame huggers now and the PO already cut the fenders. I just don't like how hot my engine bay gets. The ones I have are low quality and don't seal well against the block.

Basically I want headers just for the sound so that's why I wanna go with the ceramic huggers.

The hedman tight headers look nice but $400!

what am I getting for the more money i would pay for the headmans vs the generic summit and Man-a-fre?

Summit has a 90 day return policy. I'll probably just buy a set of generics to test out the clearance on my rig.
