I did a mini truck knuckle/disc brake swap on my '69 FJ40, and have brand new Fj40 TREs, which I would like too keep.

I am looking to use a bushing to sleeve the 40 TRE so it fits in the mini truck steering arm, I know MAF used to sell hardened steel bushings for this purpose, but they not longer carry them. Does anyone know another source, preferably for steel bushings? I heard the brass bushings are s***.

I know I can change to late FJ40 steering arms or FJ60 TREs, but I looking for a $10 solution not a $100 solution.

Sb0 at any local auto parts store.

I chose orileys.

Order one or two Extra...you'll crush at least one

That is what I am doing - I've actually already mounted mine. And yes, I did crush one before I got it right.

Haven't installed them in the truck yet so I can't speak to fitment.

Chevrolet Starter Bushing, Part # SB0, or 4200B (different manufacturers, same part).

They are brass, so not as strong as the steel, purpose built bushing. Several folks on mud swear by them, several folks say they will fail. At $4 each, instead of $15, I decided I'd take my chances and see what happened.

Hi all,

Georg @ Valley Hybrids (a MUD supporting vender) sells the steel adapter bushings that allow the use of 40/45 Series TREs with 60 Series steering arms.

Regards,

Alan

I figured I would update this post rather than create a new one. One of my shims is now out of round and needs replacement. I have been hunting all over and just found the part.

The bushings were also offered by @lcwizard .

We introduced them in the mid 90's at man-a-fre's request . We only made one run of 500. they lasted about 8~10 years. In the mean time
Specter started building them also. They may still have them. The machine shop I used had my drawings but they closed after the crash.
Most of my CAD work I did in the 90s is gone unless I purposely saved it to the newer format. I never assumed I'd build them again.
Another 500 would last me into my 90's. I've passed on so many drawings to anyone that wants to continue I can't recall. You get to a certain age that you start thinking more of finding successors and less of building new items. I've done over 200 different products in 30 years for the Cruiser market. Many that I don't personally make anymore are still duplicated. As the 40 and 60 market shrink there's fewer and fewer
retailers that hold inventory. In 2000 I was at Man-a-Fre during their year end inventory. They had over 750,000.00 on the floor. By 2011 I believe the number was under 200,000.00. I was fortunate to work with Al. They provided the space and customer base so I could build as
much I wished. The difference was they always placed minimum orders that made it possible to build items that were otherwise impossible.
I never saw an order of one. I don't see retailers buying shackle reversals or shackles by the hundred anymore. Most things are order in small numbers or drop shipped. That system raises my costs. It requires inventory storage at the manufacturer or creating a distribution point. Considering we only has 4000 sq ft to build we can't hold hold all items we once built. All our stuff tends to take up space

And we all appreciate it! I, for one, understand the situation. I had ideas on a couple products I thought might have retail value, but might not sell many. Not worth pursuing.

FWIW, I just received a couple pair of the tierod reducer bushings from CruiserOutfitters.com.

We've got a few bags full of them. We make them out of 17-4 Stainless Steel so they don't seize to the TRE end shaft. We've sold hundreds over the last 6-7 years with great results.

We (Cruiser Outfitters) can rea, the 4x arms out to run the 6x joints but you're left with little material. We prefer to swap the knuckles with the 80+ knuckles and run the 6x steering arms.

Hmmm, thanks for your reply Kurt, I see your point, I was trying to save sourcing and rebuilding later hubs as I have only recently rebuilt my 40 hubs...

Cheers.. Gaz..
