Looking to build my own front and rear bumper for my 79 40. Any one have plans they are willing to post and a list of materials. Going to get rid of the stock look and build something more beefy. For the rear I want to remove the OEM spare tire hanger like everyone else. Any help will do, Thanks.

Have almost got my new front bumper finished. Used autocad and solidworks to design it, then got it lasercut and pressed. Has worked out pretty good. Am happy to share autocad and solidworks files along as its for private use.

Just tacked together.

40's with 35" Krawlers are just dead ass sexy.

Nice bumper.

Twisty, I like the way you plan on mounting the bumper directly to the frame. I guess you'll be boxing in the frame and bolting the bumper on? With this setup the rear frame gussets will have to be removed. Any worries about that? Love the wrap around to protect the rear quarters.

Got to love Solidworks...

I've been trying to play with SolidWorks as well. Could I get the files for the front bumper?

Thank you everyone for your input. Now I have a base to start with. Wngrog that is a sweet bumper. Thanks for offering your system. But sound to advance for my skills. I better stick to plasma and die cutting.
I'm off and running. Ill post pics as I go.

I am also in the middle of a front 8274 bumper build and planning a rear bumper with tire carrier. If it makes you feel better, your plasma and die cutting are ahead of my pen-n-paper, Do All band saw and hand grinder.

twisty, those look SICK. do you think you could email me those files? byrdgarrett47@yahoo.com

Cheers, Email sent ;)

Not 100% sure yet, as I haven't talked to my mate that does all my welding. I thought it'd just be easy enough to cut everything off outside the chassis rail flush with the outside edge of the frame. Rather then removing the existing rear bumper and frame gussets and boxing in the frame

Twisty,
I'd love the file for your rear bumper. I have a shop that is ready to do the work but I'd feel better if I could hand them a concrete plan. What you got there is a lot similar to what I had in mind and would help me alot in getting started using Solidworks.
Thanks,
John

Be safe down there. You folks are in our prayers. jC

Cheers JC, Luckily I'm a long way north from all the fires, but seeing the stories on the news instantly brings a tear to the eyes.

How is the surf this time of the year?

Pic was from saturday when the wind was strong offshore and the waves really full, but on sunday it was a perfect 2-3ft wave for the long boards. Up tp a 200m ride then walk all the way backout and do it again. This time of year is probably the best for getting decent swells as we get lots of lows and cyclones off north queensland.

That is a great pic Twisty!!
