Bret, i wasn't trying to be "that guy"
Just saying that getting the cat protection too close and you will be dealing with rattles/buzzing and all kinds of frustrating noises from the cats hitting. I know this from experience.

The powder coating is textured which give ok grip. I had a set bedlined and they were very slick. I believe thay have a powder coating that has more texture that could be used to prevent sliping.

I think that just plan ol' skateboard grip tape would do the trick.
Mike,
Do the lighter 1/8 in. versions look and fit just like the heavy set in the photos.
I would guess they do. The one pictured is the 1/4 in. type? The one in the picture is 1/4" wall 2x6. The only difference in the 1/8" wall material is the radius in the bends of the 2x6. They are a smaller or tighter radius. It is not a very noticable difference. They both mount the same way.

I have built other slider designs that look similar to the normal square tube main rail with a round tube outer rail. I also have done one with a kick out in the back rail under the back doors. I am affraid I do not have any pics of those availible. As far as the bumpers. I can certainaly take some more pictures of the ones on my truck that are on the web site. The other designs I have drawn up but have not built for anyone yet. I think the bumper needs a stinger also but when I built it three years ago I did not have a tube bender yet. That is what I am trying to offer. I do not have to make a huge profit from every product I sell. I have very little overhead and just really enjoy making people exactly what they ask for. Thanks for your comments and if you would like more pics of anything please e-mail me and I will send you some.MikeSmith, nice slider design for sure. Curious if you have other slider designs or only that one? Also, those are gorgeous front and rear bumpers, have any more pics of those? It says on your site you have other front bumper designs, pics? I think your front bumper would look awesome with a stinger. The 80 market is starved for well priced sliders and bumpers, and that seems to be what you are offering.
I have not heard of anyone breaking u-bolts like that. How big are they? I use 9/16 grade 8 botls for these.
Joe thanks for the compliments I appreciate it.Mike, I looked at all of your product pictures, you have some great stuff! I really love the clean designs that integrate so well with the 80. Your front bumper is just about perfect as well - if I could fab, yours would the ideal design IMHO. Very nice work!
That bumper is huge but it is what he wanted on his truck. Not my style but he loves it.Looks good. That GMC bumper looks like something you'd find on the front of a locomotive.![]()
Thanks for those picture. I have not seen that happen before. I wonder if the rock could even get to the bolts on the clamp style or if it would even matter. You must have hit very hard to do that. I am not sure anything bolt on would live from the looks of that.I broke these a while back on a pointy rocks. The truck basically landed on those bolts on the DS. I also did not have the front most u-bolt on at that time so that had contributed to the damage as well. I forget the thickness on these but they are pretty beefy, It hasn't happened ever since, mostly because I (try to) stay away from pointy rocks. For obvious reasons, any exposure of the slider bolt scares me, especially the 80's slider.

I agree that the c-channel can hang up on rocks. I use 2x2 square tube on my sliders that would eliminate this. But the rocks can still hit in the front or the back of the outriggers and put similar force on the bolts. I think if you wheel your truck hard enough to break those bolt you should go with weld on sliders or at least tack weld them in place. Thanks for your input.mike,
In my opinion, and it's just that, i feel like some of the reason for the bolts to break is the fact that the c-channel on the sliders is facing down. I know this is to allow debris/mud ect. to drain out of the slider, but this also creates a place to hang up.
Just my opinion.
I had some people show some interest in my sliders. Here's a link: BumpItOffroad/80 Sliders - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting. Tell me what you think. Sorry about the pictures. It was getting dark, I'll try to get more this weekend.
Mike is still making these. Check out bumpitoffroad.com
I'm not sure how often he frequents this forum.
