RetroSound stereo installed... not the best fit nor the best sound but show me another one that fits.

Cool- I bought the same unit but haven't gotten around to installing it. I'm not terribly concerned with sound quality for my 40- it's so loud and rattley on the road that installing a high end system would be kind of a waste.

Did you have to fabricate your own brackets to hold it in place? I've seen a thread about that in the past.

I just used the bar included with the kit and bent it to line up with a bolt hole. My previous audiophile self would be shaking his head. I'll see if it starts coming loose, if so I will go ahead and fabricate something out of an aluminum sheet. I was hoping that the bezel would cover the hole completely but it seems like they use a generic one and it wasn't LC specific. Perhaps it may be a nice 3D printing project to have it nicely fit into the radio opening.

Best thing about this setup is the BT audio and no more empty radio opening.

What's a Defender cushion? Land Rover OEM part?
Disregard. Found your seat thread.

Thanks for including the post. I forgot about it.

Oh jeeze, yeah that fitment in the hole is pretty disappointing. I assumed that since the face plate is supposedly made for the FJ40, it would fit nicely. sigh.

that pic tells you of how the bezel compares to the opening, just generic. But if I go the route of the fab'd bracket, it should line up much better though.

Waiting for parts, I wanted to check and record my compressions... Happy with the consistency, even the usual suspect #4 wasn't too far off.

Lost Horse Power yesterday and was getting terrible valve rocker noise. Opened up my valve cover today and found the bolts for the valve train support had backed out. Shut the joy trip down and had my son tow me back just to be safe.

Either the torque value I used was wrong or I just plain forgot to tighten them as I've ordered the oil shaft o-rings.

RIP oil tube running up to the shaft. Doesn't look like what the diagrams describe, the sleeve looks like a separate part but it looks like it's one piece on mine. Wonder if it can be removed and moved to the end of this tube. Hmmm..

One thing I found was that the PO had changed the HG but seemed to use non OEM valve stem seals as it looks like most of them have risen. Wonder if those can be pushed down without me having to remove the head. You would think that I would be burning quite a bit of oil but I guess not.

It's interesting how they make the Heads with coolant passages that don't have anywhere to go since there is not a matching passage on the block. I guess head matches other blocks?

pic of the head gasket still on the block.

I checked how the umbrella seals work over the valves... I don't see a way these stay in place (this by design????), so I may have taken off my head for an incorrect assumption?? Oh well, good workout.

Picked up a Gauge tube kit from Autozone which had the exact connectors needed to repair the broken rocker shaft oil tube.
I'll have to keep an eye on the compression fittings to make sure they won't loosen up.

Hanging out for now until the paint dries and I get a new gasket. RockAuto told me that the ITM one they sent me should fit and that's it.... no arguing... haha...

Put the manifolds together and found that I may have had an exhaust leak all along as there was light shining through to the inside of the exhaust manifold. Did a little grinding to try and flatten it out, but then a friend suggested Remflex for a gasket.

I bought the material and saw that it was so much thicker than the RockAuto Gasket. Cut it out and it sealed everything up nicely. Nice.

Finally got the leaky steering gear box off to rebuild it. I have to say it was nasty after all the years of leaking. Nice and clean now. Careful not to damage the shims if you open yours up, it seems to be really easily done.

Got my Head Gasket from CCOT and it fits like butter. Definitely going with a trusted vender from now on.

Got the freshened up manifold back on as well.

After starting the engine I waited for the oil to show up on the rockers, there's much more oil on the 4-6 side of the shaft than the 1-3, but also something else showed up.... I ended up buying a 5/16 compression fitting and just used the compression sleeve out of it and just compressed it to the max as it wasn't fitting quite well. Leaked stopped until I can get a new one ( Toyota uses 1/8-28 BSPT WTF??).

Then I ended up doing the valve clearances the old fashioned FSM way. Totally ruined my brass feeler gauge.
