That front bumper is a work of art. Too bad they are no longer available. I’ll be in the market for a front bumper some time next year.

Definitely, I was very lucky to get one of the 10 or so the Richard of Costa fab made, It tucks in and up higher then any bumper for a 80 that I have seen, and after more then 8 years I have yet to see one that I like better.
I got heavy duty wing up grade and the bumper can really take a hit, several times I have hit it hard enough to rattle my teeth and I was sure the I damaged it only to find some paint scratches.
And I really like the recovery points, out of the box thinking and they don't stick out and the inset fairlead are what really sold me on the bumper !

Work of art for sure, Thanks Richard

The closest in function and looks is the Coastal Offroad bumper in my opinion. A person just needs to be willing to put it together. I'm currently building one for a first gen Tacoma and I am sold. It will be the bumper I buy for my 80.

I’ve looked at this bumper several times in the last year or so. I do like everything about it except that they say it requires a winch with a removable solenoid box and that it seems like the winch is rather buried and not openly accessible to deal with line pay out or reel in complications. My Warn 9500 has integrated solenoids. This bumper could be my reason to upgrade to a new Warn M12000 which does have a removable solenoid box. Haha

I wouldn't stress getting to your drum on the trail. It's easy enough to pull a bind out under power - just make sure you have an accessible horn somewhere to wrap as needed to pop any binds free.

I guess if you're planning to replace the rope on the trail that's another story, but if you keep your line in good shape you should have plenty of warning that it's on its last legs and replace at home in the shop where it's dry and warm, rather than on the side of a trail in the weather.

Yep it might be buried but how often really will you need in there. A plus with it covered is you synthetic rope will always be out of the sun.
We are remote mounting the solenoids on Wyatt’s bumper even though we don’t need to. Much cleaner install. Bumper is finish and hopefully going to powder coat this week. We did add the lower outside skirts for more support and they cover up factor bumper and body mounts.

Got a little more time in. cleaned the hubs and installed the new wheel bearings & races

Then I hit a bump in the road  I could not get the axle shaft to pull out far enough to clear the drive flange and install the snap ring, it actually felt jammed
( wouldn't move in or out ) since I was a few Spicy Rum's Deep I decided that it would be best to come back to it the next day

It was a gift from @2fpower (thanks Kelly ) man that stuff is powerfully especially if you don't drink regularly.
I ended up pulling it apart again the next day.

Turns out that the shaft is to big right where my finger is, that part of the shaft should ride right where the brass bushing/needle bearing is inside the spindle.

If you look you can see where the needle bearing are hitting the shaft, the little perfectly spaced marks on the shaft.
The RCVs are brand new out of the box

To the naked eye it looks almost the same, but just a hair difference will make your like miserable.

That's crazy, I thought rcv's were top of the line.

Did you try freezing the needle bearing?

Did you try freezing the needle bearing?
The spindle slips right onto the OEM shafts
What happens when it thaws out?

I had to use a rubber mallet just to get the spindle off and it was only on less then 1/4”

Seems like a good idea, but I’m afraid of it getting stuck on the shaft.

It’s not supposed to be a tight fit there.

The axles have always moved freely through the spindle.

Did you try freezing the needle bearing?
Why freeze, it would actually shrink making it harder to slide on where heating it up would expand.

Part # is right ;)

I just got off the phone with RCV, there sending out a replacement Berfield today 😍 at no cost to me with a return shipping label so that I can send the bad one back.

Super happy with them even though it should not have happened.

Sounds like we are wheeling on no time!
Chomping at the bit, ready to get out on the trail, it's been way to long !!!

Got shipping conformation from RCV today  the new Berfield is on it's way.
