Took a little side job for Cruiser cash so it will be a few days before I can get back at this

I appreciate all the tips and suggestions keep them coming

How much would one add ?

Drive it down to where you have 3-5 gallons of gas in the tank add a gallon of denatured alcohol, you can add more denatured alcohol. I used to run 2 gallons.

I would also check your O2 sensors as well, I was failing even using the denatured alcohol but my numbers kept going down in the HC/CO areas but once I found that I had bad O2 sensors passed with flying colors.

Good news
Got the old girl to pass smog.
Unfortunately I don’t know exactly what the issue was
I can share what I did.
Checked the timing it was off at 10* adjusted to 3* BTDC, reset the ECU and drove a bunch running all the premium fuel out and putting regular in.
Added and bottle of Heet fuel and injector cleaner
And removed the 15* under drive fan/water pump pulley (thing was keeping the Eng temps at 170 at idle testing).

HC went from 121 to 60 with 100 Max allowed. Pretty big difference.

The biggest thing I noticed testing with and with out this pulley is it really shines low speed and idling.
When you pull up to a stop with the OEM pulley the temps start to climb. With the under drive pulley they start to drop.
perfect for low speed rock crawling!!
At speed I only Observe 2-4* cooler temp with the under drive pulley.

Unfortunately we did not get to run the trail because one of the drivers got cold feet or whatever and wanted to turn back.
I don't like to send someone back on there own so we all turned around and went back together.

I would like to have finished that trail with you. Someday …..

It was a good trip for sure. As for bad choices; your willingness to step out into adventure includes those you are with and all adventures don’t go exactly as we had envisioned them to go. Thanks for encouraging me to go to Moab even though it was a last minute sort of thing.

I’m signed up for Rubithon on the Solid Axle Run leaving Loon Lake at 0730 June 21. The snow is still very deep so this might be an epic 35th Rubithon. I’m sure there is still space available for a green 80 on 39’s.

Well when working on getting the smog done I was hearing some noise that I didn't like, it seem to be coming form the rear third so I thought I would look into it.
So I pulled the axles and drive flanges they look good !

While they are out was looking at the hubs passenger side looks to have had some water intrusion

And the drivers side has 90 wt gear oil in there. So new axles seals will be going in and I will pull the wheeling bearings clean and regrease them.
Then I move on too the third, working by my self so I decided to make a saddle to fit on my floor jack to help me get the third out and down safely

This worked really well.

The good news is everything looks really good in there and the back lash feel good. But since I have it out I took it to American Gear to have them check it out.
The bad news is I will still be chasing the noise
Matt at American Gear thought the same thing that it all look good, but is going to tear it down and check all the bearings and back lash.
It well also give peace of mind that all is good in the rear axle !!

Maybe that bearing on the side with the water intrusion was making noise. Good catch on that. I’d look carefully at that bearing and race. Don’t forget the axle vent. Good time to check it out.

15% under drive pulley that replaces the Fan/water pump pulley.
Member here PhotoMan was making them but I got one of the last ones. I think they where originally made for rigs that had super chargers.
I heard that Witt's end was going to take over making them but who knows
I do know that it works really well for what I do with my Rig ! Slow speed rock crawling / technical wheeling

As far as the pully, he wont make anymore & Joey said there is not enough demand.
If you have not put the pully back on will you get some specs on it... ID, OD & depth from mounting center & compare the two.
If someone took the time one could find an OEM unit that could be a bolt on. Thing is, that would be time consuming.
If you have it back on then oh well...
