So today I got my first pig. I had to sell a junky/Rusty 40 during COVID (job loss etc) and been itching to get another LC.

I was trying.my darndest to save $$$ until September, however, I'm susceptible to impulse. The PO really helped out a ton and helped make this deal go through. It runs, drives, stops. Now, what else to fix...

The first step is to get it running and drivable. It'll start and run on either right now, so gotta solve that. Then tune-up (maybe HEI dizzy, pertronics at least) and fluids. Then figure out what I need to do to the wiring.

I'd like it to be a light little camping rig. I live in Central Florida so it rains A BUNCH which means all the holes will get patched/filled and the rust will get sealed.

As far as mods: new tires, warn 8274, cheap dual battery, a/c. Might do a sniper if the engine is up to it -otherwise a swap might be in the distant future. I'd like to put an air locker in the rear but we'll see.

Right now I'd like it to be liveable and drivable. My 40 was very roadster like and was pretty spartan to drive around town. If I can get this slightly better than that I'll consider it a win.

I'm up for suggestions on the meantime, though.

'71? What's your dreams of it becoming for you, so we can set your budget and spend your money. :)

Yup it's a '71. There's not really a budget per se. Ive got an idea of what I want it to do/be l. When it gets to that point on the list, then maybe reassess.

Lots of nickels and dimes! They don't count...

Modifying it other than stock will eat your budget rapidly. Get it running so good on cold start you can reach in and hit the key it fires right up. With no throttle and choke. Then start thinking/talking about lockers and EFI. Get your truck sorted and safe first. Good luck!

Agreed. The toys aren't priority at all, just an eventuality. Lots of little and basic stuff comes first. I've learned about myself two projects ago that getting it running and driving safely and reliably before "toys" will keep the overwhelming feeling down.

Let's see how much self control I really have.
