It's been awhile so I don't exactly but it was near perfect then and I've had no issues with reception or transmission. I have a magnetic dualband ham Antenna on the roof and still no issues.

Thanks

Why mount it so high up on the rear where it's angled like that? I mounted mine down closer to the bumper. It still has really good forward coverage because the body lines. See below.. Just use a few washers to get it square over the lip.

Ham antenna's are much shorter. And I love these antenna brackets because they angle and follow the body line and snag less branches and bushes. Plus I didn't have to drill a hole this time for the antenna cable. I was able to sneak it in through the light housing.

fire stick and a fire stick mount, tied to the rack with Quick Fist, later I plan to mount to a rear bumper someway or to the body like someone else did on here. It sticks way up, so I have a spring for the antenna coming, right now I have 1.2 on both channel 1 & 40

it held together, only 2 times did I need to adjust the rubber clamps

Yes I'd like a mount like that but haven't wanted to drive holes in the body.

I'm thinking of getting the Gobi ladder and attaching the firestick to the ladder and also to transport my Koplin fuel pack. If I'm going to get it I have to order soon to get it and install it before my trip. It's getting here quickly.

Weld the bracket to the door stopper.

Just make sure to grind the protective coating off the stopper first, and remember that the bracket is stainless and the stopper is not.

I have had a Firestiks, 5' and 7'. Replaced that with a 106" steel whip and it was nearly night and day in performance as well as looks. But I finally broke down and got a Wilson Trucker and it's been as good or better as the steel whip. Granted this is on my Tacoma, but my GX will be getting a radio before long and I have been looking at mounts. The CBI ditch bracket makes for a nice mount, too. You really need at least 3/8 of the antenna above the roofline for mediocre performance.

I need just enough CB range to talk to the people who insist on running CB for runs.

Anything I really care about is going to be HAM. :)

I keep putting off taking the HAM test. A simple mag mounted Little Wilson would get down the trail a mile or so. 11m is more fun when the skip is favorable.

You don't red to take the HAM test if you plan on just using the simplex channels to talk with others on the trail with you.
You should have a license to hit a repeater and talk on non simplex channels.
I have my license and have basically no idea how to hit a repeater. I always just use simplex channels on the trails.
All of the Baja race crews just get modified radios to work on the simplex channels and cost less than most HAM radios.

HAM is sooo good. The test is simple. Really simple. Just get it done!

Any type of transmitting on HAM frequencies requires a license and the use of your call sign. Simplex or repeater makes no difference. Accessing a repeater is simple and can be the difference maker in an emergency. I would suggest doing some more studying or get the help of another HAM operator. Also there are no channels, there are frequencies and ranges for specific types of transmissions called the band plan.

What I was told at my HAM test is that using the simplex channels you don't need a license, but you really do, because as it was said the rules don't say anything about the Freqs, it says you need the license to use the radio (i.e. Equipment). Take it for what it's worth to you and go from there.

In the old days of CB's you should of gotten a license, but most people did not. Now license are not given out

Well nobody ever uses a call sign on simplex chann errr frequencies and the test doesn't teach you crap about using the damn thing. And if you don't pass the first time they even let you take the test again immediately after for another $10 so take the test if you want to geek out on the radio and just buy a rigged Panasonic radio if you want to be able to communicate with your buddies on the trail with crystal clear sound. :p

Please share more on this, GX4sevend! It looks like a Teq badge, with the bars painted either gloss or matte black?

It's an aluminum teq badge for a 5th gen 4Runner. The center piece doesn't fit it perfectly so a little modification was needed. I taped off the outer trim and center chrome to line up with the badge. I wanted something different than blacking out the whole grill

Bought a $30 led and had a bracket fabbed up to hold it on the metal tech bumper. Wired it in to a fob so I can turn it on when people tail gate, I mean when I need to see better. The bottom two lights only come on in reverse. Already had the wiring so total cost I'm in it is $40

Purchased the Blue Ridge Overland sun visor storage a few weeks back, been super solid especially after my cheapo EBay one crapped out on me after a month or so. $30 but definitely worth it. No pictures but it fits nice and snug.

I was eyeballing one of those. Glad to hear it fits well.
