Then used 3 inch mesh for the floor and finished up the welds

Morning will be final touches, blast, powder coat, install

Desert Dune

Welded on some tie downs and a license plate bracket. Powder coated black with steel grey metallic and clear like the bumpers. Ran it down the line

Just one picture of it on the 80. I'll try for a better shot tomorrow with gear in it and a wash job

My cooler fits barely. It will fit 2-3 gas cans also

Well, I decided to start on the safari roof rack today. I used 1" emt conduit for the main frame. Too bad it only comes in 10 foot sticks, have one small chunk to weld in. The base frame is 50" x 86" outside. My dad was an electrician (among other things) and taught me how to bend pipe, pretty easy really. The emt seems to be plenty stout and I have seen others here use it so I figured I'd go for it

Set marks at 17"

Add 8" per bender instructions

Presto! 25" leg

I think for the top hoop I'm going to use 1" again and make it for the front part only so I can mount a rtt later. It will be 2" wider and forward of the bottom hoop 1" for a rake forward look. I'm trying to figure out a removable rear section out of 3/4" tube as well.

Very cool. I got my pipe and 90's... but how does that bender do? Any kinks in it? I might buy one if it makes clean bends. Close up pick of your bends would be great. Thanks

I'll try to get some more pictures tomorrow if I get a chance to go to my shop to work on it more. My 90's are smooth but my two 45 ' s for the top hoop are a little bumpy but not bad. It's all about pulling the bender smooth and steady. That 1 inch tubing gets tougher to be smooth. Bending with flip flops on may not have been the best choice!

Got more done this morning. Made the bottom rectangle, and the top front tacked on.

Here are some close pics of the bends. Nice and smooth on the outside, some rippled spots on the inside. I guess pre made bends would fix this but more work too.

Did a test fit. I used 1/2" square stock to reinforce the top rail. Also 1/2" x 1 1/2" rectangle stick for cross bars]

Hell ya Dog!!!! That looks great. You just inspired me to get out my pipe and start building. Hope you dont mind me stealing your design. :poof:
