Loved every minute so far! I did break a motor mount today so we'll see how I feel tomorrow.....heading south from here it's "real Baja" they say :)

And if anyone is traveling Baja and reads this, between Tijuana and El Rosario there're more Pemex gas stations than you can count + lots of new ones under construction.

Pic of the motor mount? Did the rubber split or is it something some kid with a stick welder can patch up?

At a glance they seem fine? I'm def getting the fan scraping noise + tons of shifter movement in low gear. Let me know if the images tell ya anything

Also walked outside to find this present!

I have to admit, I can't see anything screwy in the picks...leads me to believe the rubber separated. What you're describing sure sounds like a busted motor mount.

Bummer about the flat too.

Good luck finding a fix! The good news is it's not going to stop you in your tracks.

Its the driver's side mount. I had the same symptoms last spring and changing the driver's side mount solved them. Take a look at the driver's side from the underside and you will probably be able to find a faint, barely visible crack near the center of the rubber.

If you don't want to change it now, get a piece of chain to wrap around the mount to keep if from shifting too much to the passenger side when in low range. Mine was bad for quite a while before I got around to changing it, it wont cause any major damage,... but that fan sure sounds TERRIBLE!!

This was what mine looked like when I pulled it out.

I just noticed that you have a full-float rear axle,... nice!

By the way, if you were in Pismo last weekend you might have seen my friend and his old silver Jeep Scrambler. He was down there with his friends and their giant full size trucks.

Yeah that's what I was thinking ^ ^ ^...like that.

As far as the fix...I was thinking along the same lines....a bailing wire cocoon around the whole thing....

Did the tire develop a slow leak? Or was it knifed in the sidewall?

Awesome Pictures and looks like a great trip...Your website it awesome too. It's great to see someone out there on the road really enjoying the journey...keep the great pictures and stories coming! Awesome 60!

...and some beautiful pictures also.

Yeah, and this explains why...

I feel like a moron, I'm on here saying, "Hey, you've got a good, aesthetic eye...durp, derp!" and he's probably thinking, "Uh, yeah...I'm a professional photographer..."

Hope he got that motor mount figured out.

Duuuuddddeeee, this is so awesome!

Love your truck and love what your doing with it!

Sorry to hear of your mechanical troubles but I'm sure you'll get it worked out.

Awesome read so far...subscribed! Can I ask how you get your photos when you're in the truck, like the one where crossing the bridge? I'm thinking tripod and timer or remote? Love the pics so far! Keep on truckin...

I had a few NRS straps with me and I used it to hold down the motor mount, seems to be good so far! Drove 200 miles yesterday and nothing melted...

I also got my tire fixed by one of the nicest Llantera shops in El Rosario. His wife owns the little restaurant next door and she makes all of tortillas by hand. So good. A lot of folks recommend a famous spot called Mama's Espinoza, it's been a long time Baja 1000 stop, but honestly this place down the street is wayyyy better. And if you buy lunch or dinner you can camp on their property for free.

I was going to fix my tire myself but for $150 pesos (~$11 USD) this shop pulled my tire off and had it plugged in about 10 minutes. The bigger truth is that I left my 21mm thin lug nut socket back in the states....huge bummer down here BUT this shop sold me one! Super nice. And we had incredible burritos. This is what I love about traveling:

Fueling up at the Pemex before heading out to Guerrero Negro:

There's a few hundred miles in between El Rosario and Guerrero Negro with no gas:

Biggest cactus ever y'all:

Wow, imagine that! I'm pretty sure your dog (and cruiser) are my laptop screensaver. I found a picture of a red 60 loaded with Tecate and a dog somewhere on google and decided that pretty well represents my interests, lol.

Thanks for the photos!

We had a slight change in plans....found out the cargo ferry down in La Paz isn't running until March so we ended the Baja adventure a bit sooner. Thankfully there is a ferry out of Santa Rosalia to Guaymas and we took that this morning. I was a bit bummed we didn't make it all the way down Baja but I'm pumped we didn't burn all of the gas only to have to head north again.

Camp spot last night, a small beach in between Santa Rosalia and Mulege:

The ferry cost M$5000 pesos (~$400 USD) for the truck, 2 passengers and 1 perro. Baja overall is friendly to Americans but the ferry experience was real. There doesn't seem to be much of an official schedule and they wing measurements and load weights on the spot to see if everyone will fit. Along with lots and lots of military searches, on both sides of the ride. Overall it was a 12 hour process but driving it would have been 1,700km + lots of military stops. It's a unique experience for me to watch folks with machine guns go through my truck. After they figured out we actually didn't have any dope they were super friendly:

In line to board:

Maddie at attention:

Had to reverse onto the ferry with no guidance, you just make it happen? And someone yells at you to stop:

Ferry was a mix of folks going to the mainland for vacation and trucks making deliveries. I was the only gringo on board:

And Maddie the only perro:

Mexico is a beautiful spot in the world:
