Hey guys I'm current stripping down and replacing the rear wheel bearings in my 1982 bj42 with a full floating axle.

I pulled the axles and I'm thinking they have maybe too much wear on the shafts. I just wanted to know what you guys thought before I blow $500 on new axle's.

It's very noticeable when rubbing my finger over it. There is maybe 1mm difference.

Does the wear seem excessive or is this normal?

I am going to be doing a fair bit of 4x4ing in this car and I'm currently putting in an aussie locker so there will be a bit of load on it.

Here are some photos.

On a full floating axle the bearings are between the hub and spindle. No bearings ride on the inner axle. It only has a seal and gasket.

Others with more direct experience can chime in...

I think you can seat the new axle seal just a little shallow to make it ride in a different spot.

Maybe Marlin Crawler has a double seal that would fit.

Speedi-sleeve is another option.

Cool thanks for the replies.
So from my understanding there is no weight on the axle, the weight is on the spindle and wheel bearings.

So my axles should be good then, I'll just order some new axle seals while I'm in here.
