Just did this!!!

Needed to bump this up.

So easy to do, I was a little intimidated at first but the board has two small holes in it where you put the two wires of the diode and then a touch of solder and you are DONE! That is after trimming some of the tabs off but really easy.

This is a great mod, just read it all, and will be doing this very soon (raining at the moment)
Saw all these threads regarding doing the other windows, of course it can be done, just have to spend some money on devices such as the det like mentioned in an earlier post.

Though I think the best is the 100 series (I think, if I recall correctly) that has it by default if it fits in the 80 would be good solution.

So has anyone tried this yet????
This is such a great thread and great forum, already done a few mods that I have read here

/Thanks to all

What a great mod!

Had my door apart to check out my door lock motor, was not even planing to do this! Decided to take a look, dig through the junk box, and see what I could do. Had the diode, followed the directions, and in 10 minutes had a feature I have really missed. Thanx!

Great mod and so easy to do. I think the next step is putting some type of delay so when you switch the ignition off you still have some time to close the window. Its annoying when you pull up, switch off the car and then realise the windows still open. After searching the for a while i still have not come across any similar mod. Anyone heard of this being done?

I can close all my windows as long as I don't open my door......with the key off.

Just figured out this mod on my own, and figured I should search before I posted a new thread. Sure enough, you all beat me to it. But I do have one thing to add, and that is a photo of the top of the circuit board. I carefully de-soldered all the hard wires so I could flip the board over and add the diode to the correct side. The photo was taken before I added the diode. You can see the outline where it goes (D1).

Had to add the missing diode to make the %22auto-up%22 drivers window feature work.jpg

FREE DIODE!!!
Radio Shack sells them in packs of two, only need one. First to claim it gets it free to their door. PM me.
Great and simple mod, however... I've lost the ability to partially open the window. It's either fully up, or fully down.
I need the ability to have the window partially open.
Anyone have a solution for this, or did I screw it up somehow???

If your in auto up mode just slightly push down on the switch while the window is going up.

Tried that, but went back and tried it again, and it now will stop where I need it. I just have to be abrupt with the switch.

Old thread I know, but I wanted to try this both for the mod as well as to help with my window speed. So, I did take apart the switch cover in order to really get into the contacts. A few springs flew out and I was able to replace most of them, but I can't figure out where this spring/nylon sleeve go. Anybody know?

TIA

yeh same here a couple springs fell out of mine woas wondering if someone could take a pic of the contacts in view with the little springs in place most appreicated.
cheers Luke

Those dreaded little springs..... Took me a 6 pack one night to get it all back together. No I am thinking about performing this mod, even with my fear of the dreaded little bastard springs versus my fat fingers. I know now to not tear it apart that far for some cleaning nor this mod.
Bump this up! :) Thanks @landtank

What are the diode specs .. in case you don't have a RadioShack close to you to look for that part number posted at the beginning .. ?

Long post, but within, I found specs as a simple 1N4001 diode. Other have even used a 4004 I think I read.

Bought my 80 Series new in 95, just discovered this thread and followed the steps. Works Great! Only took 20 years.
