Sylvania Silverstar - just sayin' :meh:

I was thinking of that but got a lot of this when I googled the silverstar.....But maybe they all have a short life.....

Complained to Sylvania. Got the following Reply: Thank you for your inquiry, and please accept my apologies for any inconvenience the failure of these SilverStars may have caused you. Due to the performance of the SilverStar, it does have the shortest life of any of our product upgrades. The shorter life span is directly related to the performance nature of the lamps. The blue absorption coating on the glass contributes to the crisp white light emitted, but also traps heat inside the capsule, causing the filament to burn out more quickly, thus decreasing the life. As with most high performance products, there is a trade-off between the higher performance and the life hours, unfortunately. The SilverStar product works harder (not burns hotter, however) to give the whiter, brighter light and this impacts the life hours. The life expectancy of a SilverStar halogen light source is dependent on the driver's use of the lights, which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. We estimate the SilverStar halogen light! s to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions. The life of the SilverStar is further decreased if being used in a day-time running light application. Note: Expect one year of life. Headlight bulbs have become a consumable like air filters

Thats great, but.....Ive already ordered these and was asking if anyone has tried them and was wondering if they were any good or not. They have a little parking type light built in also.

Porsche headlights make things faster

I bought these when I was about 12 for my VW, my dentist had them in his 911 back in the 70's. I still have the original box. Their a french manufacturer cibie.
I had been looking several years for a set that was yellow, yellow headlights seem to be fairly common in France judging from many pictures of older cars there. Anyone know how to get a set of lights with a yellow lense?
I hope I never break them I've only seen two or three other ones in the past 25 years. They have H-4 bulbs in them.
Watch when you buy these H-4 lights off the internet as many of them have plastic housings and or lenses, the plastic will NOT hold a high watt bulb for very low before they melt.

Thanks for posting how they've worked for you guys....Its hard to weed through the pros and cons sometimes......especially when you know everything you read on the internet must be true...;)

Look forward to seeing how you like them 1979fj40....

I also went with the Silverstars. Prior to that I had purchased the Hella Vision Plus, but never installed these because most threads recommend rewiring. Rewiring for fear of melting the stock harness. I didn't have the time prior to needing the enhanced lighting, as where the Sylvania's just plug in. I might keep the Hella's just in case, or maybe get rid of them.

My rig had the Hellas with stock bulbs when I bought it. Seems fine. With the normal bulbs, I don't see why they'd be any different than stockers. It's probably just because you could easily buy 80w/100w bulbs, put them in and fry the wiring...

hellas

I had a set of hella driving lights in the UK and I loved them, great on dark backroads

if you want to get rid of your hellas let me know I wouldnt mind em

Please post up a review once you get them. That's a screaming price. I like the daytime running light feature.

eBay Motors: Hella 7" Round H4 Headlamp SET H6024 Headlight EURO (item 370140425929 end time Jan-15-09 09:34:38 PST)

They were about $80 shipped.

The new ones are brighter than the old ones. Most of the reflector was gone from the old right side one (top right).

I've got one good one (bottom left) if someone wants it cheap.
