Yeah, I'm not positive that's a Columbian Craftsman. The chevrons and the cast indention for the crown logo say Craftsman Craftsman.

I read it on the internet so it must be true.

I've read and followed this whole thread and while I haven't handled one of the Craftsman vises in question, I do have 2 later model Rock Islands on my bench right now. It sure seems that RI was the only vise manufacturer that was stamping dates on the slide behind the static and if the jaws...

How much is a sears 7" vise worth? It's a 506 51840. The current owner said he would sell it for a fair price.

If the 518x series Craftsman vises weren’t made by Columbian, then they were heavily influenced by them. The overall shape of the main parts are very similar with only some minor cosmetic changes. The conical yoke on the Craftsman is also just a cosmetic deviation yet also a throwback detail to the 519x series.

I picked up this 5” fuller with a stand. The fuller is nothing special. I’m really interested if anyone has any ideas on the stand. It’s had plates mounted on top and bottom. It’s a little too nice for homemade. I posted it on some of the other sites. Any theories? Maybe military? Someone please tell me this is a vintage Ma-deuce mount lol

I put the machine gun mount to work with the pow-r-arm. It’s a very good height for finer work. I found that every single piece is stamped or cast with the same number. I think this further leans towards military origins.

Clean and painted. Not sure what I think about the meatball and swivel nut being painted. Probably just going to flip this one.

A few of my recent restorations. I had to buy a small utility vise “horde” last week to get the one I really wanted. 2.5” clamp on Wilton! Had to use a clamp pad from one of the Miller Falls clamps but it worked great!

…and not “really” a vise but too cool to pass up. A 100 year old 12” pipe cutter from Erie Tool Works. A little over 4’ long and 55 pounds!

Anyone looking for a Holy Grail vise, I have a friend selling his Wilton 800S. Largest heaviest Wilton made. 8” jaws and 228 pounds! He is in the Ohio W.Virginia Kentucky area. Asking $2500.

I'd love to have an 800 just because. But it's not something I'd try to have shipped or drive long distance for. However, if it should ever happen to make it's way south of Atlanta, say on a family trip, keep me in mind.

I got really lucky this week on two separate occasions. Both vises are in great shape. The parker 88-1/2 actually has the pipe jaws! I got the seller way down when I pointed out the missing collar made it pretty difficult to use, along with it being seized. I posted on the Bench Vises Forever FB group. Within a couple hours a member offered to sell me a collar for $25! Great guys over there. The 204 R was a pretty flakey seller. Besides almost becoming a missing person due to my inattention to details on GPS it went fine. PSA for the day ALWAYS check the city. I wound up in a very sketchy area in the wrong city.

It would depend on the model really. The parts are worth quite bit usually. A swivel base alone can be worth a couple hundred bucks. I have welded vises with good results. I’m kind of a sucker for a basket case, especially if it’s cheap or free. Post some pictures when you get a chance. Check out the garage journal forum. They have probably the biggest bench vise thread on the internet. There’s some genius level vise fixers over there too.

I was disappointed that I missed out on two Wilton vise's on an auction in my area. They were 5" and 6" and went for $50 and $75 respectively. I had to be in another state at a funeral.....

I think that is the more "rare" HD model too. What a shame. I agree with @bhsdriller , its toast. If you're trying to get some money back out of it, I'd also pull the drive nut and jaw inserts.

There’s a vise parts thread over on garage journal. I bet they would all go quick. Or post over on bench vises forever on fb. Check and make sure they allow sales first. I don’t think it’s prohibited.

if it's interesting to you, before I'd part it out, I'd practice brazing/welding a good bit with it. Not like you're likely to run across another broken one any time soon. Nothing to lose and much valuable experience to gain. Never know, could work... Have been amazed at how strong brazed parts can be. Would take a bit of equipment admittedly, but maybe you can befriend a local welder interested in challenges?
