Any Vise Collectors Here?

With a quick search of parts, didn’t see any thing available now, but I’ll keep searching. I’ll also head back to rescue spot and see if the base is laying around.

I did find this machine shop, too pricy for me but may help others.

I have a good friend with a lathe, I’ll give him a call.

@NicksFJ40 Does the Hollands have the main nut? Most of the vise's I have seen without a spindle are missing the main nut as well. It is easier to fit (cram) a main nut in a vise that someone wants more than the Hollands. The Rock Island (my second favorite manufacturer) is a lighter lift repair wise. Thanks for saving them!

Man, those parts on that ^^ machine shop site look beautiful. They are not cheap, but I would not say overpriced either for the material and work involved. It would take me a few hours to make a handle like that on my baby lathe, and the raw steel is not inexpensive.

Farman33-no the Holland does not have the main nut..if you mean for the long screw.

Finally found a 3 inch Columbian. Been looking for a while but nothing was ever priced right or close enough until now. Found this one about a 10 minute drive from work so picked it up. I'll probably strip it down and add a fresh coat of paint in the spring.

Was given a light-duty Craftsman little thing. It has the 2 chevrons on the movable jaw, like in one of the pics well above. Do these mean anything?

Oh what a day! I just landed the elusive Craftsman 05198! I sure hope whoever the guys are that offered $60 and $80 on this are ashamed. I paid his asking price without blinking. This is probably the second most rare craftsman vise and an absolute beast at 107lbs.

who made that one?

What a find! These will sometimes slip through the cracks as casual vise "hunters" will (at a glance) mistake these for run of the mill medium duty Craftsmans. These do not photograph well and as such, are much larger in person! Rare to find the riveted logo in near perfect condition as well! SCORE!!!!!!!

I was overdue for a new-to-me vise. Found this Reed locally last weekend and thanks to this thread knew it was worth the asking price. Have it apart for a cleaning. How do I find a manf. date?

The date stamp should be on the dynamic jaw at about the 5 o’clock position lower corner. Usually it’s pretty light. Very nice find!!! The R series are top notch and the hockey puck spindle is my favorite!
