Any Vise Collectors Here?

in your first pic there are a couple features that I see, a notch and a lip. I imagine you could just put a pipe there and pull. But as to whether one could bend a typical 3/4" pipe that ways, seems wildly optimistic to me, unless they mean just conduit or something. And I would expect kinks. All pure guesses, never used a pipe vise that way.
On my Rigid and others with the chains, there are posts that you use for bending pipe but again I can only see doing that with small tubing, like brake lines and the like.

Anecdotally, I used my new (to me) Columbian pipe vise yesterday to hold a shaft I need to remove pillow blocks from. Well, it held it just fine but also promptly put noticeable marks on the shaft due to the very sharp teeth. Gotta play easy with that one... At least the weld held, that's something. The other good part is that I held the Columbian with the Prentiss, so doubled the fun!

A friend of mine recently broke a Wilton vise he's had for years. I'm not sure yet on how it is broken. I'm also not sure of the model or size.

If it's a jaw, are they weldable? Junk? Sell for parts?

I've always wanted a Wilton and he may give it to me, just to see what I can do. I mentioned this thread to him and he may let me chase it.

Is there any place that makes replacement parts for Wiltons?

It would depend on the model really. The parts are worth quite bit usually. A swivel base alone can be worth a couple hundred bucks. I have welded vises with good results. I’m kind of a sucker for a basket case, especially if it’s cheap or free. Post some pictures when you get a chance. Check out the garage journal forum. They have probably the biggest bench vise thread on the internet. There’s some genius level vise fixers over there too.

@BILT4ME Wilton makes new parts for all their vises in current production (as well as some older ones). I have a couple guys who dabble in parts sales. Jaws on Wiltons are all replaceable and account for the bulk of their parts sales. Swivel bases as well as end cap assemblies are also available but (at times) pretty spendy. Happy to help you out if I can. When you find out what it needs, message me.

…and since it has been a minute between project posts, her ya go!

Lovely complete Parker 974 1/2 that looks like it was bought a hundred years ago and put in a covered barn. PERFECT jaws and a correct lock down wrench. Came apart easily and cleaned up nicely!

And a Columbian made Reed 106. This was a do nothing find (well I did paint the letters). Great user.

I have yet to even see a 5198
I keep a registry over on GJ of the 97's and 98's. To date we have 28 examples of 5197 and 12 of 5198. That's a pretty deep pool of vise collecting so that says something. I just realized your catalog page does not include the 5190 which is also a fixed base at 3-1/2". I forgot that one. Some say that is the rarest of the bunch.

Craftsman really did have a monopoly on style with these tools. From the classic Reedsmans to the art deco 5190x and the bullet nose utility vises, ALL amazing in their individuality. GREAT pick up @Mr Wonderful !

I couldn't agree more. The 519x and Reedsmans are my absolute favorite. Pretty hard to come by in my area though. I've only seen a handful of Reeds and I have the only Heritage Badge Reed I've ever seen in person.

All this talk about Craftsman vises made me go check the one I have. Turns out it is a Columbian made model marked 506-51840. Needs a little work.

Then last week I saw a Craftsman 5162 listed for a good price. I tried to let someone else get it but after a day I contacted the guy and it was still available. This one is a Rock Island 573.

Looks like we have Craftsman examples from Reed, Rock Island, and Columbian on this page.

^nah, it'll buff right out... ! :)

what's with the two chevrons?

Yeah, I'm not positive that's a Columbian Craftsman. The chevrons and the cast indention for the crown logo say Craftsman Craftsman.
