Any current options for steering stabilizer / damper / dampener?

I painted my OME steering stabilizer black, I think it helped.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned TJM yet. I have a TJM unit on my truck and it's been awesome in the little amount of offroading I've done with it. It's certainly tamed the 35"s over washboard roads and rutted fire trails, something the stock one didn't.

I had a prototype Fox unit on for a while, but as one of the previous posters alluded to, the valving was not 50/50 and caused a pull in the steering. I went back to the OME and haven't had any further issues, although it's certainly not as pretty:

Why didn't you get it re-valved to your needs?

The prototype project didn't pan out. Fox currently doesn't have anything that will work on 80s.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by they dont have anything that will work on 80s? I was thinking about getting a fox steering stabilizer to go with my Fox 2.0 Performance IFP series shocks and then getting it re-valved to suit my needs. They seem to work...

The well dried up, so to speak, when my contact at Fox stopped responding. I may revisit it at some point in the future, but as others have stated the OME works just fine, so :meh:

I change my OME for another OME last September amd it only last me 8 months.

It leaked all the oil. what happened????

Did you look for any cracks, particularly along the weld seams?

I have a 91 JDM 80 series diesel and it has no steering damper, I'm thinking it was an option when originally built as there is no trace of mounting brackets or marks on the chassis indicating there used to be one...
can someone who is familiar with the options available with this model confirm this?

I've got one...just replaced with OME.

I installed a Tough Dog 9 stage adjustable unit a few months back, i've owned this vehicle since new and i've had a few different types over the years including a return to centre type. This one gives you the ability to set it to your preference and so far i can't fault it.

I wish I could get those here, tough dog makes an awesome line up of stabilizers. I emailed them a few times but never heard back from them.

Try Shane at Suspension Stuff in Oz. the shipping on a stabilizer wasn't astronomical, and they carry Tough Dog.

Mine has one as well, still original stock as far as I can tell.

I contacted www.4wd1.com about the tough dog steering stabilizers, they estimated me shipping at about $100.... but keep in mind that is to Hawaii.

I have not yet pulled the trigger on buying one of the tough dog stabilizers, thus why i am reading this thread.

what are your guys thoughts on the TJM & Ironman compared to the OME ?

I am looking at a FOX stabilizer. There was a big tado about a year ago on some shocks and such but it kinda fell apart but one of the guys in the SoCal forum is working with one of their reps in the area on some 80 specific stuff. If you know the extended and collapsed dimensions I can get those to him to confirm for FOX. I was planning on measuring mine tomorrow for him anyway.

OME or Ironman? :hhmm:

What about Tough Dog? I had to watch the video twice because the first time I was just staring at the blonde. :D

They have that coil over stabilizer they claim is for 80 series for 4" or more of lift and larger tires.

Or, for relatively the same cost as that Tough Dog stabilizer, you could do a hydro assist.

Same cost but not same work. I'd have to port my gear box, which at 300k, I'm not keen on doing. It have to find a ram and gather the ends. Nothing is plug and play for hydro yet or else I would consider it.

Im running OEM damper on my 44" and hydro assist
My friend has the OEM damper and also another damper and hydro assist as well, running 46" MT
