Nice rig, gives me something to look forward to. Hope you don't mind me asking but would you have any pics of the body work being done? What brand are those tires, consider sale post soa?

"I'm planning on keeping it stock"

Why do 99% of new PIG threads state this? I'm always eager to see some modified PIGS out wheelin some hardcore trails, but I digress, this is a nice lookin rig so I don't blame you for not cutting it up. Mine used to be blue & white too! Good luck on the buildup dude!

found the pics from when we bought it.

all hail the shop foreman.:D

Wow...that is so much like mine it's scary. Same rust, same spots. Only difference is that mine "looked" really good because of the crappy Maaco paint job that I will be figting to undo for months to come.

Well done, it's beautiful...in that porcine kinda way!

Thanks for all the compliments, folks! It's nice get encouragement and approval from other pig enthusiasts. To answer some questions:

Sorry, no pics, but there are write ups with pics of similar mods here on mud and other sites. These links were helpful to me:

Tires are 31x9.5 maxxis mudder radials. I will definitely want to sell them, but I'm not sure when it will be.

Are the rockers and 1/4 sliders written up anywhere else?

I'd be very interested in learning how you did them!

Very nice!!!

See above links. I'll be glad to answer any detailed questions if you decide to do this.

I guess what I meant by "planning to keep it stock" was I want to retain the classic 55 look, while building a reliable, capable off road truck. Obviously, if I were strictly "stock," I would have tried to stay truer to form on rockers and rear quarters; turned out that the heavy sliders were an easy way to replace rusted out sheet metal.
I live 200 miles from the closest rocks, so extreme suspensions, cages, etc., just aren't necessary in my case. However, in the near future, this rig will be sprung over with 35's and repowered with a fresh 2f. I'm at a good stopping point right now and have been enjoying some time behind the wheel as opposed to having it in the shop. Who knows how this thing will end up, as I am learning that a pig is never "finished.":)

btw-I'm enjoying following your build-that's gonna be a serious trail rig!

update

Been a busy year for the 'ol pig.....

Original '74 1/2 f engine was on its last leg so I dropped in a good 2f complete with man a fre header, mallory dizzy and motorcraft 2100 carb..... pigmtr.webp

While I had the engine and drivetrain out, I wire-brushed the engine bay and underbody and coated everything with POR 15.

The pig has been a great family hauler/grocery getter for the last year, but I wanted to make it more trail worthy. Naturally, I needed tires and lift. I had originally planned to go spring over, but over the past year, I realized that I wanted to keep the good street manners, and I'm not really that interested in hard core wheelin' anyway. After much research, I decided to go with the SOR heavy duty 2" springs and 33's. I wanted to keep my stock wheels and hubcaps so I went with tall skinny BFG 33 10.50 15's. The 33's really improved my off road AND highway driving.
Here's a poser pic with the lift and 33's
pig208-1.webp

Most recently, I built a custom bumper with recovery points and a winch mount. I mounted the winch low, behind the bumper, and mounted the solenoids under the hood, to keep the front grill "clean".

Other recent mods: custom built shackles(2" over stock front, 1" over stock rear), new exhaust, new shocks, POR 15 on interior floor, rebuilt door hinges, shoulder seat belts in front.

Future mods: Front discs, power steering, lockers, roof basket(just got one of those costco cheap racks with extension) and on and on and on.......

Ahhh - what dreams are made of - outstanding job Battle and nicely balanced between stock and the other end of the spectrum..... have you got all the visible rust issues dealt with?

battle,
that thing is beautiful!!! I am shooting for about the same look, but in nebula green...

I had the same tire and wheel combo on my 67 FJ45, and it was great. good highway manners and also good traction off road for the mild wheeling. Plus the looks cant be beat as far as a stock look goes.

PS, does it have OEM A/C? If so can you shoot a pic of where the hoses go through the firewall, as well as the three bolts/studs that hold the back of the evaporator to the firewall? I have an OEM a/C unit I scored, but need to know where to locate the holes...

Thanks!

Battle.........awsome; congrats on a sweet piggy...are you ever in the Bham area?;

Bubba,
lookin good, i hope to lift mine and swap my 33's off the 62 some day. Am I a dumb ass or did you add the lift and tires after the camp out? maybe I was the distracted by the periodicals floating around. Also I forgot to tell ya'll whhen i was useing the crapper about 4AM all of a sudden the sky lit up like a barge was shining our camp. I looked up and this big ball of fire was comingdown and broke up into alot of pieces. it was crazy. could have been aliens! I mean it lit the whole place up.
The Bumper is really a nice touch too. I've been driving the mail pig more lately and really eager to start something soon. I took the pimp daddy visor off and it does looks better.
Your pig looks awesome!

thanks. As far as rust goes, I feel pretty good about everything except the rear fender lips. I'm getting some paint bubbles there that will eventually need to be addressed. Front fenders, rockers, body mounts were all rebuilt/replaced with new metal, so I hope it's good for another 30 years or so. I use this pig offroad, pretty often in the mud; I have made it a practice to clean it up asap after getting it muddy. I think keep it clean and parked inside when not using it, really helps keep the rust gremlins away.

Yep, factory ac. I was very impressed with how well it cooled during last august' heatwave. I'll get you a pic this afternoon.

I added the shackles after the campout, which gave me about 1" more lift.

How bout some pics of your pig. I'm sure these folks in the pig forum would love to gawk at your Aussie pig.....barn doors and all!

Rarely make it to Bham, but I often drive the pig over to tupelo to take the family to see the inlaws....I'd like to make a trip over to north Al. for some camping. The mountains would be a nice change of scenery fom the flat mississippi delta.

Battle; if you come up to north Alabama via I-20/59 give me a shout maybe we could have a piggy meeting!

Hey- did you paint this thing ivory, or real white? I can't tell by the photos...

cygnus white.....I think the color code was 012

Thought I'd give this a bump-

Family, work, other interests and life in general have conspired to keep my beloved blue pig in the shed all too much over the past 5-6 years. I was cleaning up my shop Friday morning and, thinking about what a shame it was to have the pig locked away, not getting any use. It was clearly time to let it go.

About a year ago, another mud member sent me a text to let him know if I ever wanted to sell. I never replied, but probably unbeknownst to him, he planted a seed.

So Friday morning I contacted him, told him I was ready, with intentions of using funds on a 100 series-possibly for my wife, kids or a back up vehicle( my tundra is getting up there in mileage :))

Well, surprise!! Turns out, he's got a hundred that he's willing to trade!

He drove up yesterday morning in a stunning and tastefully built 99. I was blown away. We greeted and immediately started talking cruisers. We walked around the pig, and I think he was equally excited- it was obvious we were gonna make a deal. We spent the next couple of hours talking cruisers and checking out some local cruisers in the area- I was able to show him some of the projects and cruisers that belonged to my dear lost friend, Missipboy.

After our visit, a deal was quickly made, and my pig would be heading south to join the cotton land cruisers club down in Jackson. What I expected to be a bitter farewell, was more like simply a page turning. I was excited for the new owner and the adventure he was about to embark on. Oh, and it didn't hurt to have a bad ass hundy parked in the garage!

I can only hope he has at least half the fond memories, friendships and FUN, that I had in the ol pig!!!

Thanks Patrick.
