Packed some Cat grease with 5% moly content into the bearings, installed the shaft and arm of the centering tool.

Torqued tool until I had around 5lb of preload on the bearings according to the highly accurate, super duper fish scale tool.

And with everything in life, moderation is the key, might as well and stop while there's time time to relax, and drink some cold beer.

Thanks for documenting w/the pics.... Beautiful view of the valley. Looks like the melt off is moving along fast. You'll be knee deep before you know it. I'm taking the last Chukar hunt of the season this AM then it's time to oil the 5 weight..

The rack looks good. I did the same thing with the expanded metal this January. Can't wait to see pics and read about your trip to the Joe.
I might have to scrap that trip, we’re still deciding. We’re planning a trip to the Oregon coast and down to Northern Kali in June also.

Where do you get to upland bird hunt into March? We’re done with upland at the end of January here in Idaho.

PA season goes 1 SEP - 30 APR. 1000 Acre farm in Amish Country. Birds are pen raised but we do well on hold overs at the end of the season. Wood lines, Sorghum and field corn strips. Owner is a big deer hunter, so he plants a few acres for feed.

It's not Idaho but it's all I've got close by.

When installing the centering tool ensure that the 2 flat shoulders of the tool are somewhat aligned. This will help when getting a more accurate measurement, keep the jaws of the mic flat against the flat shoulder.

Use the paint pen to apply paint, pull pointer forward and scribe a line in the paint.

Bolt the spindle to the knuckle housing, using 2 washers under the bolts, insert the pointer into the bushing inside the spindle, install the centering tool in the same orientation as it was in the knuckle ball. Pull pointer forward and scribe a second line.

Measure=D, subtract 3mm or .12 in.=E, this equals the lower shim measurement.

C-E=F
F=upper shim thickness.

Repeat as necessary, at least twice just to verify. Both inches and mm.

Installed some Marlin inner axle seals while I was there.

Don't forget the knuckle wipers behind the housing.

Install the knuckle housing, shims, upper steering arm, and lower cap. Work them down evenly making sure the bearings are lined up.

Torque to 70 ftlb.

Check preload with the precision fish scale.

Attach tie rod. Torque to 60ish.
