With the rivers starting to ice up it is time to work on other things.

I have also noticed that my mpg has gone down since I swapped to the new tires, I was getting a steady 13 ish by the math before I swapped, now I'm struggling to keep it up to 10 mpg. I may check the tune on everything and make sure the engine doesn't have an issue that I have missed.

How many miles do you have on them? I just dropped my mileage on the DD significantly until the new set broke in. It also doesn’t like winter gas.

Maybe a couple hundred, the winter blend gasoline has been suspect also. I know the winter blend diesel wrecks the mileage on my truck.

I went from 33x12.5 to 33x10.5 but they are a bit heavier than the old ones were.

I think it may be the weight of them and the more aggressive tread. As far as pressure goes I'm still dialing it in to a good number, I started at 32, now I have gone down a couple times and am currently running 25 psi, I may lower that down to 22 and run it for a week or two.

Wow, I thought the tire pressures were low on my BFG 33x10.50's at 27 psi on stock steelies. The outside edge of the front tires are starting to get scrubbed from turns after almost 4K miles. Time for a rotation.

It was kind of funny when I drove away from the tire store when the BFG's were new, it felt like they had installed power steering on my rig. It was great until I got on the highway and was all over my lane like a drunk. They had set the psi at 35!

Doing the math on list the numbers I was getting around 12-14 day in and day out, that number was about 10% short of actual mileage also. Not now, ever since I swapped tires I'm getting about 10.7.

You're absolutely right about the power steering effect of the new tires!

I asked when I had them mounted to hit 32 psi, once I put them on my cruiser it went up to 35 psi, I've slowly been working my way down to get the best traction, feel, and mileage out of them.

I was wondering how the steering was feeling. That damn trade off between ride and steering elbow! lol! Mine were down around 22, bumped up to 30, helps with the steering... I need TRE's bad!

Steering is great on mine, with new TREs and the tight center arm it is easy enough to steer that I've never considered power steering! If you're ever up this way you can come take it for a test drive!


Like I said in PM, I would buy a nice new fly rod before the power steering upgrade!

I'm surprised you don't have much snow and the streams are still open. When I think of Montana I figured you would be the same as us or colder.. And we are 3 feet deep in salt!!!

That pic was from mid October if I'm remembering correctly, that area has a few feet of snow now. The valley floor is a different place.
