When I put lube in the tranny and transfer case a few months ago the transfer case leaked like a mofo. So while I had full access to it (tub still on sawhorses awaiting paint), I decided to pull it and toss it on the workbench. I picked up a gasket kit a couple months ago with some other stuff, so tonight I started to tear into it. So far everything looks good internally, just a couple old paper gaskets I thought I could get away with leaving there.

I made a little more progress than the pictures show, I had too much oil on my hands to be digging around for my phone.

Question,

I replaced all the seals on the input and output shafts before I put it back in a few months ago, should I replace them again?

I have been careful not to put pressure on them or bind them up in any sort of way.

If the sealing surfaces have any grooves in them, you might consider getting some speedi-sleeves for those shafts...biggest headache for mine
when I did this on the old case. (The Orion install solved that problem...albeit at great expense!)

Cheers!

I didn't feel any grooves when I put it back together a while back, I put the front output flange back on last night. I scraped my fingernail across it and didn't feel anything. The rear piece I hope to get to tonight, I will pay extra attention to that one.

I did manage to get some work done to it last night, put the t-case back on the tranny, front output side is back on. Tonight I hope to finish the speed-o-gear seals and start putting the rear half back together, possibly get finished with it tonight or tomorrow night.

As always I had some good tunes playing last night!

You can have any thing you want at Alice's Restaurant.

That vice was a good score. Very good condition! The jaws don't look like it had been used very much, if at all.

Don

X2 on the Vice. Very nice condition and a quality piece of equipment.

From the mouth of the old timer, it has never been used since he has owned it. It was still in the paper and bubble wrap from when he bought it over 15 years ago.

Thanks, now I just need to find a solid enough place to mount it!

Hey @rkymtnflyfisher who sells that transfer hose? Thought I had it wrote down some where, I guess not.

Found some pics from last summer in CO on the camera that I forgot to post up!

Damn, I was beginning to think this was a hidden part of Maryland I hadn't read about!

@Jdc1 which water pump pulley are you running now? I think the one on the right without the spacer will be the one that lines up with the HB pulley.

I poked around and did some small stuff on the engine today, filled it with oil, new plugs in, and installed water temp. and oil pressure gauges. Once I sort the water pump out I will be ready to fire the engine up for the first time. I will go over everything about 20 more times before I start that though. I need to ground that engine to the chassis........and plumb a temp exhaust......oh and coolant.....and......and......where's my beer?

Also finished up on the t case a few nights ago, filled it with gear oil and checked for leaks the next morning. F@#K! :bang::bang: Time for a Speedi-sleeve. Just a tad bit of a groove in the brake drum is giving me a headache!

I know of a few nice streams here in MD that aren't bad, nothing with big mountains though! I'm hoping to take my kids out fly fishing tomorrow if the weather doesn't go to crap.

I'm not sure what the pulley is out of, Onur found it for me in Japan. It is a double pulley without a spacer. If you are thinking about power steering, you'll want to use a double pulley. I'll see if I can find a part number and snap a pic as soon as I can.

No power steering for me, I mocked up a couple things today but without having another WP to compare I can't figure out which pulley to use.

Crap, I may just move the radiator forward to get an inch more of clearance.

Did some work tonight on little things on the chassis, I put both of the front bump stops on but they look like they are out of place. Both of them protrude from the side of the frame about 1/4". I don't remember what they looked like before they were pulled, they just don't look right.

I opened up a spare brake booster that I scavenged from the parts rig I had. Pretty interesting how some things look brand new when you crack them open. Aside from a little brake fluid, it was pretty decent.
