Nice dude!! That dash cap from Cruiser Corps is on my list of things I want to do and my dash looks almost exactly like yours. But first I bought myself a nice new head unit (JVC KD-X50BT) for a whooping $80!

How hard was the install? Did it take you long?

It was simple...didn't take long at all....that being said, the adhesive is still curing...so I'm not jinxing anything. I don't feel like I got flat contact everywhere so I could have taken the dash down a bit more in some spots but all in all weight and wedges seem to be getting the important parts to make contact properly.

I'm so glad this product exists.....I don't love dashmats and a new dash is way too spendy. This is a great option.

Agree on dash mats. Dad bought me one and its still laying across the A-frame in Wyoming. Sssssshhhhh.

I may be hitting you up for advise on the body work J, I have a feeling you have some experience with that.;)

J, I'd love to help you out. Call or PM me. If I happen to be headed back home I'll try and detour through Pagosa Springs on my way... I am expensive.. a few stouts ya know..

J I thought you put yours in Marley?! Or did you just not glue it down. Figure that once taxes are paid then I will be doing knuckles (at least passenger side one for now), rear panels and maybe this!

2 reasons

1: Not making a rock rig just a hunting rig
2: Resale value.

The body is pretty rust free, it would be a shame not to take it back to original.

Makes sense. Good luck with the patch :D

Just replaced the Old Delco Rebuild Alt. with a Toyota Denso Reman from toyotapartszone.com....$93 Shipped. Had to take the newly installed toyota VR off the old alt. and install it on the new one.

I swear it's running better as a result....Is that possible?

The idle simultaneously go smoother AND lowered from around 900rpm to 650-675rpm.

And It's purring like a kitten and making less noise all around.

Am I just dreaming that?

New Alt could be allowing for better ignition or spark and resulting in smoother idle?

That's what I was thinking....

The old saying is, to test an alt., unplug the battery while the engine is running...if the truck stops then the alt. is bad.

That seems to imply that if an alt. is not working properly, it's also relying on battery as well as alt. to provide the needed power for the ignitor, coil instead of the alt. providing that power AND charging at the correct amps.

So the more parasitic electric draw that occurs - wipers, lights, blinkers, heater, etc...the harder it is on the battery because the bad alt. can't keep up with the usage.

So once the alt. is good, the alt. can correctly power the ignition and charge the battery and deal with extra draws.

I don't know...it's a theory but it could be heavily flawed.

When you say the alternator is making less noise; how would you describe the previous noise?

I think mine has been making noise for some time now. Like a belt rotational squeak squeak. It's annoyingly loud. With the hood closed you can hear it over the motor loud. The belt tension is good and there is no funny wear. Maybe a bearing in the alternator is what we were hearing.

Kinda funny something electrical would effect mechanical running performance. Especially the idle speed. But when I think more about it it kinda does. The redneck in me has to be turned down a little bit sometimes :hillbilly:

It's hard to say...I hadn't isolated the noise to the alt....it just seemed like fewer ancillary noises after I swapped it.

My main noise was my AC compressor or AC idler pulley...which was solved by cutting the belt to it;)

Haha. That works too man! :D
