I’m finishing refurbishing my 1977 FJ40 OEM air cleaner. All seals are no longer available from Toyota. I did some searching and found that most people address the seal around the edge of the air cleaner cover with little mention of the seals on the top and bottom of the filter itself. To me it seems like the most important seals are the ones on the top and bottom of the filter keeping crap out of the carb verse the cover seal that could allow crap through to the filter.

So.... How are people sealing the filter?

I asked Racer65 if he was interested in making repops of those. Seems like it would be a slam dunk. I still have a pile of good used ones to work from.

does anyone have the seal for the air cleaner? it seems the replacement filter should just set in .... and no seal needed

It does set in, but it's not tall enough to reach both the bottom and the top of the housing. Plus, the two surfaces are not EXACTLY parallel, so the oval seals ARE necessary.

Home Depot has some self-adhering weatherstrip that is made of EPDM rubber that would easily follow the contours of the filter.

It would seem you are lousy at keeping a secret, Mark. Don’t feel bad, my kids can’t keep secrets either.
