So I took apart the air cleaner and separated the flapper from its base. And then…I dropped it. Is it necessary? My plan is to install headers, which means the bracket for the warm air hose won’t/can’t be reinstalled. Photos below for reference and because everyone loves to look at carnage… Thanks!

Does it get cold where you are? Yes consider making/buying a fluid heat riser for the bottom of the intake manifold - will prevent carburetor icing most of the time.

I like my 72 big air cleaner. I just made a new foam element ($20) for the manny oiled foam filter I put on back in 84.

Well it gets way colder here and lots of fog on occasion too. Climbing Hilltop here in the winter was a struggle. If it made it to the top with out choking out is was rare. Usually it was pull over and wait like 1/2 hour for the ice to melt - then on the journey.
