Introducing my new (no name yet) 1996 LHD imported 80 series. The odometer shows 69k original kilometers on the 1FZ. It's got the 5-speed and it runs and drives great. Don't have any plans yet other than finding someone to insure it. It's super fun to drive (but I feel bad with every KM that rolls onto the odometer.) Anyway what do you think?

1996 Land Cruiser VX-R:

Awesome find and a ride to be proud of.

Nice. I looked at a few while I was living in Riyadh but never found exactly what I wanted. Congrats. Very rare to see one with such low miles.

Suspicious amount of 'Pedal Wear' to be the claimed mileage.....but mighty sweet Cruiser regardless.

You forgot to list the factory in-dash cup holder. :grinpimp: What's with the worn out pedal pads? That would make me a little suspicious of the low kms shown.

Edit: @flintknapper beat me to it.

Ditto. The average wear on pedals, shifter and steering wheel do not match the mileage.

Unfortunately, it is a known issue to find vehicle with tampered mileage by resellers.

Take the instrument cluster plastic cover off. And look at the bolts holding the instrument cluster in. If they look like they've been removed, it will show wear sign. Also check the speedo wire plug on the T-case, it may show signs of it being removed.

There are a lot expats who work in car lots here and tamper with mileage. It's a known issue unfortunately.

Beautiful Cruiser. Barn doors are a personal favorite.

Looks awesome! Doubt its only 69k kilometers (42k miles) but who cares, just drive it and enjoy.

Also do everyone a favor and don't bro it out right away, looks good as is. Dial in all PM, fluid changes, etc.

Question on the part time transfer case, do the front hubs stay locked in all of the time or are there some locking hubs under the factory covers?

Pretty sure they are drive plates. In 4 years in Saudi I never once saw locking hubs.

Just a drive flange so they are locked in all the time.

I agree. It still looks in great shape and worth keeping.

They were standard on the HZJ80. Some GX trim vehicles had them around 94/95.

Easy to swap the drive flange to locking hubs. If you care about the fuel economy, it makes a big difference on these. Just make sure you go with the OEM ones from Aisin.

Looks like a nice Cruiser, the mileage is most likely tampered with though. Is the shift knob really shiny?
I never understand why those that roll back odometers don't change the shift knob and pedal pads, both inexpensive parts that are dead giveaways. (of course if they were brand new that would be suspicious as well 😉 )

I could be wrong, maybe it is super low mileage but whoever had it before was really rough on the brake pedal.

Upon a closer look the vacuum hoses are OEM, so are the clamps for the heater valve, etc.... and it all looks super clean.
