ARB or Engel fridge and your set!

Needs a potty too.:) In one end, out the other.....;)

I like it. What did you use for a burner? This looks like a good excuse to buy a tailgate off a wreck and experiment....

I especially like the idea of being able to cover it when done.

I don't know if you ever make it into bear country but, the last thing I would want is to have old Mr Grizz walking by my truck thinkin: Do I smell chicken? And there you are sleeping in the back of your truck wrapped up like a burrito to go :grinpimp:

Very Nice!

Always like to see folks thinking outside the box!

I vote this as one of the best, most inovative ideas of the year for sure!

One question though, everytime i grill i usually got some marinade and such on my meat (get yo mind outta da gutta) and the drippings make a mess, are there plans to clean that or is this a burner only? (to heat water and such)

Look forward to more pics!

alright ill see if i can aswer as many questions as possible. as for the gas bottle, i thought about the gas being int he truck and i think we willl all agree its not a good idea. So if youll all go out and look at your tail gate in the back corner (closer to the truck) on both sides you will see a flat impression made in the metal, now im not sure what its there for but im assuming its from the stamping process. however this makes a perfect indentaion to mount a regulator. i will hardmount a propane regulator at a slight angle (the flat kind that can be found at most hardware stores) that means you can just screw in the small propane bottles (the type used for camping) or buy the $20 hose that will convert that to a larger propane bottle. the stove is a single burner camping stove i bought at wally world for $18 it has a regulator (which i wont be using as it is to deep) the pan is perfect for what i want and provides a good clean looking stove. I was hoping to find a knob similar to those found on a home gas stove or grill but im located in a very vary small town for the summer and suplies is at a minimum so i will prolly use a propane soddering torch as the adjusting knob for the gas. this will in turn be hooked up to the little burner that came with the stove. the pan will be removeable so cleaning will be easy. Now for those worried about heat. I see no reason why the paint would be an issue even with out a heat shield. if any of you have looked at the gate with the access pannels off youll see theres a good 4 1/2 inches of depth at the deepest part. however ill see how it goes when i finaly get the gas going and see what happens. I too was worried about cutting up my tailgate so I purchased this one from mikesta and went to work. As for heat when im finished cooking and want to leave. the underside of the carpent will have a heavy guage aluminum which will act as a grease guard and as a heat sink. i think it will take the heat thats on it and displace it enough to where it wont be a problem and it will cool off more quickly. The nice thing about the tail gate is if you choose to do this you could do a burner on each side if you desired. the linkages from inside are fairly out of the way and it could be done fairly easily.

My only concern of this mod is making sure the tail gate is as strong as it was before the mod (i.e. cutting the inside structure apart) I have re-enforcred it as much as possible and i dont think it will be as much as a problem as i originaly thought.

mmw68 thats very nice of you and ill pm you asap, this mod is cool not only for the safari junkied but for the hang out tailgaters too. thanks again

I think it's a great mod! document it well for us as you go, I know that if it works out it's something I'd like to do.

It's a very nice mod. However, as a veteran of the 55-series list, I have to give credit where due - Luke Prilliman did this to his ironpig about 7 years ago. He also did the sink. But it didn't have a cover so that's very new.

Saw some pics of a 40 once with a air-powered blender motor built into the tailgate. Guy liked his margaritas.

So will it be at SurfNTurf this year?
awesome idea!
even if you didn't make it permanent and just had it drop in, it would still rule!

now take a J@@p grill for the top grate. and some Rover windshield wipers for tongs.

I'm really starting to love this mod!

As an added measure, if you want to incorporate Nomex between the heat shield, let me know. Would gladly send you some free sheets to make the heat/fire issue a little safer. IMO, can never bee too safe.

i wont be at surf n turf although id love to go (some day) as for the nomex i may take you up on that just in case. ill gladly try ths stove when its done with out it to see if its an issue but if it does become one that would be a great solution.

PM me an address. I'm indisposed for the next couple of weeks between work travel, bachelor parties, and brother's wedding. I can send some tomorrow before hectic hits the fan...

That freakin' rocks! :bounce:

Can I send you my tailgate? :D

heres a few mor pics, Still not exaclty sure how im going to do the regulator but i have a few ideas and have to go to the store tomarrow to see if they have what i want. also turns out the propane torch valve may not work so ill have to rethink that as well. the top mart is stainless steel which will either be pop rivited or screwed on for later access. the middle compartment will have a door made of aluminum (got to love old road signs) re-enforced with steel frame. and the little compartment next to the burner but close to the front will be a spice rack (youll understand what i mean when i get there)

when you get it done I'll add it to the FAQ.

Nice job!

That's gotta be a contender for the the most clever and original mod of the year award.

I wasn't aware that such an award existed..................:flipoff2:

Very cool. Original and very functional.

Well done Mike ! - looking forward to cooking on it...

Also a stove has many more uses than just to cook food - shower water
