I didn't. However, they are also set up to run a bolt through instead of welding.

are you sure yours are 4 inch. mine seem way longer (no insinuation)

ah crap. they sent me the wrong ones. the sent the 6 inch ones. that's why them seem so much longer. oh well I'll have to wait a little longer to get the right ones. at least i can start working on my axles.

at least they are quick about sending me the right ones. they are being mailed out right away.

well the collection of parts continues. I pulled two front axles apart today. my aisin hubs were really stuck on and as got one of them free the rear snap ring broke free of the tabs and snapped two tabs off the housing. I think it'll still work but should I try to find another housing? I also need the gear that goes into the birfield. it's snap ring broke off too as the hub came free. it was really jammed on to the end of the birfield. no idea why but it sure bugger ex things up as it came off

the axle also I think has just the small knuckle bolt pattern on it. it makes me think this was an early fj40 axle that had aisins instead of warns. I pulled my fj40 axle apart as well as I need the spindles and hubs for my new full float rear axle. I need new brake parts for both front and rear axles yet. then I can start building my diamond axles and start mocking up the suspension. ruff stuff is sending new shackles out right away so maybe next weekend I'll get to start actually building something instead of just tearing stuff apart.

man it's amazing how much floor gets covered when there are five axles pulled apart!! at least it's organized. once I get the final set put together I'll be happy to start getting rid of some of the housings and stuff I won't need. then I'll be able to make some more space again

more new parts arrived today. I love new parts. I love not having to clean them and de rust them and they look so shiny! I got my rear rotors, calipers, brake shoes and pads and hard wear kit to assemble the rear brakes. I also got my exchange shackles today so I should have lots to do this weekend!! no pictures yet. I have to make supper for my kids.

ha ha. I know. I guess I had a moment of weakness when I agreed to feed them. tied probably be able to do it themselves right? 6 4 and 2?

not sure who's going to get it. I've got a chevelle a 40 and a 62 so each kid can have one. at least I planned that well.

dvp7070 wait till next summer for the kool aid. if you come sooner we'll need hot chocolate. but you'd be welcome any time!!

lol yup. any more and none of the vehicles would work for family trips so thats where i drew the line!!

onto a little more tech i started to piece the rear axle together and found i had made a small mistake. i have the wheel hub from my 40 i though would work. turns out only my spindle will work. i need the hub off a 86-95 4runner or pickup solid axle. then i should have all the goodies to get going. i also picked up a sandblasting cabinet today to help clean up all the rusty ugly parts so i can paint them all nice. it was on 1/2 price. i figure $250 was worth having all the clean parts i want!

here are a few pictures of what i have for brake parts. these are 2014 fjcruiser rear brakes. they look very nice!!

this is the custom brake shoe backing plate it will go on over the fj40 spindle.

spindle of course...

fj40 hub (wrong one) sitting on top of calliper. the hub will actually go inside the rotor.

e brake shoes!! this should be good

calliper of course

i decided to go with raybestos rotors and pads. all of the above cost 1/2 of what toyota was charging and I've had the raysbestos stuff on other vehicles and it worked great. it comes from a much trusted shop i use for a lot of brake and exhaust stuff.

now as i'm also contemplating my from axle what are the thoughts on using the stock backing plate vs the cut done one. i made the cut down one when i rebuild my previous axle. it seemed like a lot of mud and rocks could get stuck up in there. any downside to not having a full backing plate?

my correct length shackles came as well.

yeah yeah i know. parts parts parts… lets get building right!! i just need those wheel hubs. maybe in the next week or two ill have a chance to get to a wrecker and get some:worms:

also needing some axle housing studs for the differentials. any recommendations on whether i should use toyota ones or ARP? i have to figure how many of each length i need too. i didnt think about the different lengths until i was at toyota inquiring about them.

i also read somewhere that the rear ones were a 12mm diameter while the front are 10mm. is this true? seems as though if you can swap diffs front to back they'd be the same stud?

Since you are in Canada and see a lot of rust I think going with cut backing plates would be nice in helping to rinse off any salt front the backside of the rotors when washing the rig. In deep mud and ruts I guess the backing plates can help deflect goo away from the rotors to some extent though. I am pretty sure the studs are the same front and rear. I have never ever heard of anyone having an issue with the toyota studs.
