Great build thus far! You definitely are in the upper echelon of FJ40 builds!

Thanks for the nice compliments. Im not sure if I fit into that category, but I do my best being on a smaller budget.

There are some things that I would like to revisit once I get it on the road.

I’m hoping to have it somewhat streatable by summer. Again, it all depends on my cash flow.

Thanks again

Amazing what a freshly painted tub and a new pair of shoes will do!

So talk to me about the wheel and tires sizes... Do they require spacers? Do you happen to have a link from where you purchased them? These are exactly what I’m looking for, for my frame-off rebuild.

I have contacted Wheel Vintiques about their 62 series wheels. The have a 15 x 10 which is the size I want and can build the correct 3.5" back spacing. The pricing is higher than I wanted but this is the look that I want.

The wheels are 15” x 8” Wheel Vintiques 12 Series with 4 backspacing.

The tires are BFG KM2’s 35” x 12.5” I bought the tires from 4wd.com. (heep site). Best price I could find plus free shipping.

Currently have no spacers. I believe this is because I am running All Pro Steering arms. Eventually, I may go with 1” spacers because the rear is pretty tight and I know it will probably rub once it flexes out.

Yes, I contacted Summit about custom backspacing but I decided against it.

It was going to be $94 a wheel which I thought was very reasonable. My main reason I decided not to do it, was because I’m not a big fan of the deep dish look. Just a personal preference as I like more of the stock wheel look.

I did find out, that if you order the custom backspacing from Summit it’s still free shipping.:bounce:

Project up date:

Started working on my CCOT Hell For Stout front bumper. I really like how beefy it is and its simplicity. One thing is for sure, the powedercoating is crap! As soon as I removed It from the box, it was already pealing up on some of the corners. I have a feeling someday I will be redoing this.

As you can see from the pictures, I had to slot the left hand side bumper mounting plate. This is due to my Saginaw gear box conversion.

Just found your thread. VERY, VERY nice build. From one P3 sailor to another. What was your rate in the Navy? My guess is AMS.

Nice!

92 to 96 Moffet Field and Widbey Island.

Wish I would have stayed in. Ha Ha!

You should have. Looking at your work it definitely was the Navy's loss. I spent most of my time on the east coast. Jax, Bermuda, Azores, Iceland, Sicily, all the real garden spots. Definitely good to see another AMS doing well.
