How many degrees of incline did you give those swing arms to allow for deflection under load? Are you planning to fully load the rack before positioning the latch assembly?

They actually have more incline than I would have liked. Even with my 200lbs fat butt sitting on one arm they hardly deflect. They are much stronger and stout than I originally thought they would be. Which I guess is a good thing. I really got lucky that they pulled in this direction when I welded them up.

I still have a lot of work to complete the carrier arms. Kinda winging it as I go.

Now I know why bumpers/carriers are so expensive. It’s a lot of work!!!!!

Trying to finish up this rear bumper. I wasn’t real thrilled with the look of all the different types of hold down latches until I stumbled across this bad boy. This is an all stainless latch that I was able to get for a good song.
It has that nice brute look and is super strong and beefy.

Hoping to get the rest of it done this weekend. I would like to get this off to powder coating next week.:steer: Fingers Crossed.

Looks real clean Steve. How much clearance is there going to be from the truck side of the carrier to the ambulance door? From the pics, it only looks like a 1/4".

Thanks!

Actually there’s about 3/4” clearance between the body and the back edge of the carrier. Before I welded everything up, I put the amby door in place and it seemed like there was plenty of room. Worst case senecio I can always space it out another 1/4”.

As someone who’s had rear doors “reshaped” by a bouncing tire carrier, I am always curious when someone has a chance to reinvent the wheel what their specs are. Thanks.
