What do you call it when you mix Japanese, Canadian and Colombian parts?! I’m going to roll with “Some assembly required”.

Current ops: You can see the rear ambi 1/2 doors taking shape. Keeping an OE-ish look with the hinges, handle and lock. Mods to the frames and top door hinge(s) also. I think it would have been easier, philosophically speaking, to use the fold down tailgate or 1/2 doors with the roll up rear window. Yup. Sometimes my little Infantry head doesn’t process rational thought when dealing with the Mule. :hmm: You don’t see the Ambi door option in the wild very often soooo hey we got that going for us.

Future OPs: Outside door runs and chrome window trim (no wings) are holding us hostage ref: complete front door assembly. Meh…In the grand scope of things, if 2.0 takes up a Florida life, those doors will probably be hanging in the garage as wall art. And if it stays in the Land of Nod, those doors will probably be hanging in the garage during warm weather ops. Worse case scenario, for the near future, I’ll run the YOTA (who are we @#$&%£€ kidding) safety straps.

Twist lock/grommet/footman loop installation coming up on the event horizon. There were even some minor mods to the footman loops (why not )

End State: Should be rolling in Soft Top mode sans doors soon.

I am half expecting my aluminum body 40 to stop suddenly when we come across a tim hortons or anyplace that serves legit poutine

I think the soft ambulance door setup will be pretty cool. However how does the upper part of the door not flop around?

The factory rear soft doors have a latch that holds the sides together about midway up the upper door section. They are fairly rigid as well. I assume the aftermarket doors would have some similar latch. Pic from SOR.

We’re bantering some different solutions to an issue that comes from adding the AQ rear doors/removing the TROA sheet metal from their door frames. (Opinion piece) One of the issues with the TROA system doesn't provide a good latch for the lower door. We wanted a latch for rear door if the top is removed.

So, a redesign was in order. If you scroll up a couple pages you can see where the lower door was modded to take an OE latch system and incorporate it into the AQ doors. AQ came with a recessed latch but IMHO opinion it’s not the best design. The spring loaded pin into the tub isn’t one of the best designs either. Not knocking the tub, absolutely love it. It’s just some of the ancillary parts that I don’t care for.

The “tops” of the door frames, IOT fit just right, have a slight “lean in” angle. The current plan is to add a bracing system that supports the frames.

I’ll post up some pics later.

Good comparison of the TROA door and the Aqualu door we’re using. Either or would work. I’m blaming g the owner/operator for all of the “what if”, “why couldn’t we” or “let’s try this” additions..😎

FWIW, I have a Troa-style (if not actual Troa) soft top on my 43 with the same ambulance door set up. I like needing to open only one of the doors to access the rear, even with my full 4Plus tire/cooler carrier. I happened to notice when going topless the first time that I could reverse the order of doors closing (passenger first, driver second) to hold them both closed. Not sure that’s intended, and not exactly ideal, it maybe helpful for someone else using the Troa lower ambulance doors. Long term I intend to work in an OEM, or at least OEM-style barn door latch.

@Chungas Revenge, if you aren’t using the Troa spring-loaded pin that holds the driver door closed, I’d be happy to offload that from you in exchange for a contribution to the Mule 2.0/3.0 fund (tax deductible I’m assuming). Feel free to reach out if interested.

Happy to donate it for the cost of postage. As soon as I have everything sorted (should be soon), it’s yours for the cost of postage. Remind me again in a couple weeks. I’m old and prone to fits of aimlessness.

Still looks the same driving through 78 and 68 through the Morgantown area. Maybe more traffic now...

What you were/are in the hood???

I’ve been in Preston County all week and just got back from a foray into Garrett Co.

Ok, some muscle movement from USPS.

Inside and outside belt weather stripping/non wing/1/75-84 and the chrome Chanel bead for the front D/P doors made it from Tejas.

So, front doors and rear 1/2 doors are going to see some action in the paint booth. Not telling this crowd how to chop kindling but, it’s the small things that keep you staring into the void. 🫵🏻😎

Currently out in the ville in the Land of Nod. I’ll post up some details once things start to come together.

Sort of.

It's a long story, I can sum it up as, cheap tickets to Pittsburgh, and emergency trip to southern Maryland, and all of it was started because of a surprise 80th birthday party in south central PA.

I've put nearly 700 miles on a rental today, spent nearly 3 hours in DC traffic, now I'm back up in PA.

That’s a journey.

You made it out of DC traffic unscathed. Pretty sure that qualifies you for the Combat Drivers Badge with V device.

Rounding the club house turn and closing on the home stretch.

1/2 doors are in motion. Final prep.

2.0 being 2.0..

Spacer to position an original ambi door catch. The laws of Mule physics: “For every mod, there’s an equal and opposite mod required in order to make it look like there’s no mod at all” 🙄
