No, I was serious..That is very clean work...I'll be taking a stab at that soon enough too. Thought about rear disc conversion. Hate given' up the parking brake.
Thanks. The parking brake felt like it took forever because I didn't have anything to compare it to. I had most of the major parts but was nervous about missing something. Next up is the front axle.

What do you have for a parking brake now?

parking brake

Momentary lapse of reason.

OE - 76 = front disk & rear drum. P-brake on the T-case. I think it is the same set-up as your project?..Short story - I have been reading through axle/spring swap threads for the last couple of days..

Boosted photo for reference of E-brake:

Just fyi - Coolerman has a stub harness and the correct electronic flasher to work with led bulbs to make the led's work correctly , otherwise they flash at hyper-speeds .

PB Blaster is a decent penetrating oil - but Kroil is far superior and much faster .
Here's a link for a trial can , free -
Trial Offer - Kroil/AeroKroil

I've converted nearly every mechanic/gear head locally pretty easily around here .

but Kroil is far superior

Good copy ref Flasher: Contacted Coolerman last week regarding new connectors for my rear brakes and/or a new rear harness...Not sure I'll be converting this year. Running traditional bulbs right now. It's on my "wish list" at this point. Now, if I hit that lottery skies the limit!

Great reviews here on mud about Kroil...I'll give it a try. You may have another convert!

Go-to products on the side shelf of my tool box -

Anti-seize (Permatex , advanced formula & aluminum-specific brush on bottles , 1 ea. and the twist-type stick dispenser)
Locktite - blue , red , green and the activator w/brush - use carefully)
Aero Kroil , large can
Fluid Film - I'm in Illinois , go figure - I love this stuff
Cheap cans of brake cleaner & starting fluid - read , parts cleaner/degreaser ( 1 that flames if not careful - the other explodes easily)
Sprayon Stainless Steel Welder's paint - # S00078 - doesn't let stuff rust , tough as nails .
Freeze Off from CRC - there are odd times this stuff works
Gibb's - hard to get , horribly expensive and works like Kroil . Anyone that picks up that can is subject to USMC war rules of engagement .

I once said, and I quote, from the book of the "OLD, ADDLED and mechanically challenged": Chapter 37, post 727.

Truth be known, for every glad tiding of success there are volumes of trial and error hidden from the collective champions of embarrassment....

Installing the hard top and forgetting to plug in the "previously working before disassembly" interior light, is just one of those little reminders...

Testify...

Going to take a mosey on over to the "Camp Fire Cuisine" thread and see if I can learn something useful...

All the parts (minus hardware) for the rear license plate bracket re-hab arrived. I just mocked everything up for fit and finish. Bulb assemblies were backward during the "photo op". Just couldn't save the old hardware. Saved as much of the original material as possible. It's all on the "spares" shelf...

Going to terminate, with extreme prejudice, the old leaf spring pack tomorrow.

zero hr = 0900. Coffee pot is set and I have a 5 hour chaser if it looks like a protracted engagement.

You should really wait until tomorrow or Tuesday to knock that out, high teens, low twenties will work wonders on your hands!

high teens, low twenties will work wonders on your hands!

Back in the old garage I would have froze...Now not so much. I'll post up the days activities in a bit...There's good, bad, ugly, more bad and a dash of OK mixed in for good measure...

Can't wait to see/hear. You have been making great progress. I am guessing we are about to hear details about all the fun ways/tools/techniques and hopefully triumphs over old pins and shackles.

It was a day of triumph, tragedy and "how did I get "Never-Seez" on my:censor:..Often, I've heard, that the well laid plans of mice and shade tree wrenchers often go astray. This was one of those "Often" times.
Seizing on the opportunity to sleep an extra hour this AM, I did..Late start followed by running "up-town" to have breakfast with an old friend. He's a former parachute rigger so he isn't allowed within 500 yards of a school zone. Had to take the long way IOT avoid any confusion regarding the stipulations of his parole. Later, at the diner on the other side of the county, we ran into another old acquaintance. You can see where this is going.. So, after a stack of hot cakes a black coffee and a "BS" session lasting well into the "noon hour", I finally started on the spring swap. Owing my dashing good looks and youthful appearance to a liberal dose of safety, I started by securing the rear wheels with some recently acquired wheel chocks I found under a "10T dump truck" someone forgot to secure...:meh: (No wheel chocks were harmed during the leaf pack installation. All wheel chocks were immediately returned to their rightful resting spot(s) upon completion and are now comfortably residing, on a farm in Iowa)

1 Set of wheel chocks. Three sets of "Jack stands" two sets fer' using, one set "just because".

1. Stands in place.
2. Chocks in place.
3. PB set and in gear.....

the duration of the engagement depends entirely on how well the defending bushings prepared their entrenchments.

So far so good. Great breakfast, safety precautions are in place. Decided the passenger side front was as good a place to start as any.
1.Started by loosening the (all) fasteners. Spring perch, shackles and u-bolts.
2. Floor jack set under the front Diff.
3. Off with the tires.
4. Jack stands under axle
5. Remove U-bolts w/air gun
6. Brace axle with jack stand, remove floor jack.

Now this is where I get to insert a PO good news story. Liberal amount of Nevver-Seez aided in the removal of all the hardware....Shout out to the man from Idaho!!

6. Place floor jack under leaf pack.
7. Remove front shackle.
8. Lower jack w/ leaf pack.
9. Couple gentle taps on the spring perch. Leaf pack exits without much ado..

Last pic is of the drivers spring pack as it was lowered. Same scenario as passenger side (for reference), just a different side. I hate stopping for pics when you are on a roll...

Indeed.....Started out with a "post afternoon" surprise assault...Dispatches to follow...

from the early reports it sounds like you caught them in the open.
hopefully they don't have more reinforcements in the rear.

The bushing removal was anti-climactic. I used a large flat tip screwdriver and a rubber mallet to coax the bushing from the shackle mount.

1. Tapped the shoulder a few times to get it moving then pulled the first bushing out with pliers.
2. Used a brass punch inserted into the mount and tapped out the remaining bushing.
3. Tapped a few times on the spring perch pin. Front of leaf pack was resting on the floor jack (low).
4. Perch pin came out with nary a struggle...
5. Lowered entire leaf pack.

Only pic is of the recently vacated spring perch. I took better pics of the drivers side and I'll post those up during installation phase.

Early reports are promising. preliminary resistance was limited to sporadic small arms fire as the old sping pack "surrendered en mass" after mustering a halfhearted defense.

I'll post up the blow by blow re-installation pics of the follow-on mission (drivers side)..Pics below just show the front ant-inversion shackle installed and the spring perch pin installed.

It was at this point I had to make an unscheduled "head call"...Note the last pic..I think I figured out how I managed to get Anti-Seez on :censor::censor::censor::censor:

Rubber gloves. Mehhhh.:meh:
