Your attention to detail (just as others have said) is phenomenal. Really fun to see this kinda progress - been immersed in your thread for the last few days and just had to say "wow"! Always wanted a 1HZ in my previous FJ40's and thanks to you, it totally reignited that fire to find on for my FJ80...and now I can't stop searching for them.

Thanks for feeding the addiction! :smokin:

Got the re-worked areas, fenders, trans tunnel, etc.) re-lined today and looking good!

I resisted all impulses to just spray the firewall with bedliner and be done with it; weeks of blocking and paint prep are now behind me. I’ll be out of pocket for two weeks to hunt bull elk in NE Nevada but as soon as I get back the power train will be installed this thing can finally be put back together.

Wow sweet build, as for Blinky ... man they have a nice frame table :)

That frame table is amaze-balls.

I’m working on re-installing the behemoth wiring harness and AC evaporator. There’s precious little room under this dash to routing everything is a not-so-fun chore.

sheesh:

I'm a little out of sequence on this but wanted to share some of the highlights about my recent wiring harness for this project as well.

It took me several months of plugging away, but the wiring harness is complete and I've now got it installed and 90% function checked. I opted to add the Toyota superglow glow plug timer system from the HZJ75 into this harness. To accomplish this, I imported a junked HZJ75 RHD harness from a dismantler in AUS and snipped out the sections I needed to make it all work. Lots of head scratching and googling ensued.

I also spent a good amount of time and money on Japanese harness connectors from Eastern Beaver and Dave Steadman of Japan 4x4. I was able to get my hands on many of the Toyota-specific connectors to build my own harness that would connect to the glow plug components as well as several of the other Toyota sender connections... like the brake fluid reservoir, oil level sender, air cleaner sender, etc.

Also, I was, after much frustration, able to source some fuse panel terminals that fit the HZJ75. Coupled with a good barrel crimper, I was able to get very good results that eliminated the need for any hackery or splicing.

I probably did permanent damage to my back this past summer.

these large spades were a PITA to find but they are needed for the glow relays and starter solenoid.

here’s the power distribution block/fusible links for the primary battery:

And here is the distribution box I’m using for the aux battery:

and before someone asks, yes of course I plan to remove the ABS markings and re-etch the FLs to properly label the circuits... ... I’m not a savage.

...and the block heater plug I routed inside the frame rail:

The radiator support brace was relocated to make room for a larger condenser but it also made a great routing track for the dual battery controller/isolator cabling:

I’m having a buddy engrave a warning light panel for all the extra lights. This was the prototype:

👍 Very Nice work !!

What crimp tool are you using? Are you happy with it?

Also - is that a new firewall grommet for the main harness? If so can you share where you sourced it? Thanks.

Just wow

Thanks for the compliments, guys!

I used a barrel crimper similar to this one: Amazon Barrel Connector Crimper

It works great and nets factory-level results.

Also, I scoured the ether-webs for good firewall grommets but was never able to find anything that mimicked the factory grommets. So, over time I gathered a pile of random grommets from late model Toyotas during trips to the local pick-n-pull. I believe the grommets you see all came from 3rd gen 4Runners. I just cleaned them up in warm soapy water and used cable pulling lube to get them over the harness/connectors.

Extremely impressive! Excited to see/hear some videos of the 1hz-t. Really enjoyed the evolution and attention to detail, especially on the wiring harnesses and louver for ps cooler.

These guys have been my fabrication inspiration for years. If you haven't heard of Project Binky before... prepare yourself to loose about 5 hours of your life.

Oh my gosh I just checked the first episode out and this it awesomely hilarious! I think I will be in for the whole thing.

Work on your 40 is coming along super great. I look forward to seeing it in person one of these days.
