New to the forum and was wondering about setting the timing on my 40 series with the 2f. I have a mark for top dead center but no BB or pointer. Is there another point of reference I should look for. Starts and idles fine missing under a load.
Any help is appreciated.

First thing is year/model/market, then if your are using non stock parts. I have never seen a LC flywheel without a BB, the little pointer under the cover could have been broken off. I'm guessing you have all that smog stuff and I'm not into that. I have a 2 BBL Rochester and a straight mechanical advance Delco dizzy. I just tune it by ear because I have had it since 1982.

Make sure you have clean gas and air filter plus fresh gas in the tank. You checked your plug gap and made sure that its correct clean and square. Go out on a dark night, open the hood and fire it up - look for stray sparks from crappy plug wires.

You need a book Chilton's is better than nothing, the real Toyota ones are the best. Start a log with pic/vids of all the stuff you do. Write down part numbers. I blew up my wiring diagram to "A" size so I could read it easily. On the back I wrote all the torque and tune up spec's (should have added part numbers too) then had it laminated.

First off, welcome.
Agree with what @charliemeyer007 says above. But would also add that depending on your timing light setup, you may not need the bb. If your timing light has a function that allows you to set the advance digitally, set it to 7 degrees and the line on your flywheel should line up with the pointer. Of course, you may also need to check vacuum with a gauge, spark plugs, wires, valve adjustment.... If you have not already done so, I suggest you get your hands on the Factory Service Manuals (FSM's) for your year.

Perfect color 40 IMHO! I set my 2F timing by advancing it slightly more that the FSM would indicate, my BB is at the bottom of the timing window when illuminated by the timing light. I'm desmogged with a re-curved FJ60 distributor
