That is the Desert Lion Conservation Project in Namibia's Land Cruiser and it was sponsored by the Land Cruiser Club of South Africa. It was a standard 75 LDV converted to a DC version in South Africa.

Use this link for more images of this cruiser in action in Namibia. Whiles looking at the Cruiser images, check-out the web site and possibly see if you can contribute to the Project. Dr Stander, the research person, is a dedicated person for this job and needs all the help he can get.

Cheers

They use lots of bog, One of the troopys chopped down to a duel cab for underground reversed into a corner of a tunnel damaging down the side of the 78 and cracks of body n plenty of bog all around the back of the cab and rear door

I think I'd rather a 75 /79 with flat roof made to a duel cab than a 76 then you get duel tanks ,the feet room is the same for back passengers you just loose a bit of room under the front , but I'd rather duel tanks than a bit of under front seat storage space.

That above duel cab is a 76

Most shops will section the Rear Pillars onto the B or C pillar to give them a factory look. Thats also what I did and looks alot better than a square cut i.m.o.

small image sorry.

Similar to the one Clint posted. Most are flatdeck, this ones a fitters ute which is why it has the box on the back.

looks like a cross between a FJLooser and a 60 series ...
what i always liked about the 70 series was the rugged looking boxy styling. the new front end is SOOOO ... mall queen ... looking. just another americanized SUV look.

Agree. But then I only like oldschool stuff anyway, so if it don't have round lights, I don't like it.:hillbilly:

i can send you one from australia as a parts only vehicle :)

Would prefer to get one in Canada but I am planning on an import at some point out of Australia.

Msgrunt's 79 will probably need someone like you to continue!:D

A lot out of my price range. I have heard of numerous people picking them up for about 1500 bucks Canadian. I am not looking for a rose by any means and I know I might not ever come across it.:meh:

Would be cool to own one but in the end having a fully done up 77 would be far more cost effective and accommodates better seating options. Only thing is missing is a nice flat deck, but that is what a utility trailer is for.

word to the wise.
you can not legally register a mine truck in Canada. there are ways to get around this but in the end Customs can come and seize the truck at the drop of one phone call. (whether they have the right in the end to crush it will be the courts to decide)
it is a risk i have been willing to take over the decades but not one i recommend to others (lately).

What is your budget price? $1500 is way too cheap to buy any 75/79.
Why do you need a 75/9 desperately? :hmm:
Mine truck = cheap, But huge $$$ to dump-in before is worthy on the road.

Think of all those wealthy plumbers ,they are the ones who dictate such things.
Besides ,once it hits the used market you can chop away to your hearts content.

Would like to see it with a factory tub.

Pretty but not practical.
I saw a tray the other day on a cruiser that wasnt much wider than the 75 cab, probably 5x7 rather than 6x8.
It had a 4 of those under tray tool boxes that Malz sell. Looked pretty cool.

True, what scares me is wondering where the 7* series will be in 10-20 years from now. It might be made in China with IFS and IRS
