IF you could get it with the 1HZ/H55F
IF you could actually get it in Canada
then i would definately buy one, it would fulfill my Land Cruiser needs ...

What ,you wouldnt take one with the v8 turbo diesel and H151? LOL

no, i wouldn't. it is not a proven engine and the H151 is a POS.

Even though its been around as a V8 for 5 years and as a 4cyl for god knows how long and the gearbox has been around since 1990 ,how long does something have to become proven to you?

how long was the HDT around before the Oz boys found trouble with the BEB?
the 4cyl it was based on had head cracking issues, so not a good reference for me.

the gear box, it is your only choice, that doesn't make it a good one.

A few months

Different heads ,only the block shows any similarities to the old 4 cyl it was derived from.
The only problems you are likely to encounter is from bad fuel or if the alternator is constantly(AND I MEAN CONSTANTLY) getting covered in mud or salty water like in the mines

the gear box, it is your only choice, that doesn't make it a good one.

The very early models of this gearbox had synchro issues that were resolved in 93 and since then it has been used on the 1HD FE 1HD FTE in the 80 and 100 series and is now behind the VDJ7*
Since when did Toyota offer gearboxes as options. Its always been one per model from what I can remember unless you did your own mods.
If you did manage to get a 1HZ it would have the R151F :CHUCKLE:

I have no issues with the h55 , but the h151 is the best box the use in cruisers

still seems funny that you bloke's in th usa confuse the R151 with the H151, the R151 is deffinatly a POS, the H151 is the strongest manual box made, fitted to all fatory turbo and V8 engines, as mentioned early models had sncro issues, post 1993 they changed to a 3rd syncro and virtually a bomb proof box :)

a few months? anything i read it was almost 5 yrs before the Oz boys really new the extent of the weakness after hundreds of BEB went south. i searched for the article i had read but i can not find it again. (so that makes this just hear/say)
as for the V8, enjoy, i like 1 wire run and if i understand correctly the V8 is an 'E' controlled engine. pass.
actually, since we are discussing likes and dislikes i would have to pass on this truck even IF it could make it to Canada. i strongly dislike the newer front end look. so an ugly front clip, ugly dash, 'E' controlled engine and a crappy tranny. i change my vote.

from the firewall back i like it ... a lot.

.

This could partly be explained by a lack of the internet in the early 90s.
Perhaps only Toyota would have had knowledge, but those days of companies being able to keep defects in products a secret are long gone.

Toyota LandCruiser 70-Series Dual-Cab Expected In October 2012 | Reviews | Prices | Australian specifications

Something's off with the preliminary styling of the proposed double cab trucks. The rear quarter of the cab, it seems to slant forward. Additionally they need to throw in a cab vent and a spout for a fuel tank behind the rear door to break up the lines. It looks too smooth and stretched.

That they tried to integrate the bed to the cab with that bulge at the rear window, I don't care for either. Should be vertical and needs a headache rack in the bed.

That one also appears to be a hybrid LHD/RHD model,it has RHD wipers but has a drivers grab handle on the LH side.(it would be a good idea to have them on both sides)
There is a signature at the bottom of the pic ,probably belonging to an artist working for owner of the site.
So its most likely something put together to increase hits to their site.

Think you could get me one Wayne? :)

H151 ..?

I have no issues with the h55 , but the h151 is the best box the use in cruisers

Having all 3 best Toyota manual boxes H55F / H150 / H151 I would stick with H55F .. dunno if it's the strongest but certanly to me it's the best and the most durable.

I realize you live far far away and geography is not important on this Forum
however the "bloke" who is having issues with the H151/R151 is from Canada and not the USA. One requirement to have an issue with a transmission / vehicle is that you must actually own one which is certainly not the case with these Cruisers in the U.S. :D

Dont you just hate show offs :D

not really ...
i like real world reports ...
i never owned a H151 long enough to know if it was a strong tranny, i owned them long enough to know i do not like the shifting and the gearing ...
the R series are s*** trannies,

You probably had one with slightly worn synchros. Ive only driven one once as well ,but it was ok.Shorter throw on the gearstick and a different feel.
I imagine you could shift a lot quicker on a H151.
