Working on the front end of the motor. It was interesting getting the alternator and the power steering pump to come together ....since there aren't any convenient mounting points on the F135 block. I'm just glad I was fortunate enough to locate a press on dual groove balancer. A big thanks to Kurt at SOR.

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement!

I used yellow zinc. The plater I use is called the "Metal Finishing Group" formerly Alta plating in Sacramento.

The chrome showed up! Here are some of the parts. I have to finish assembling the struts, I am going with the gas shocks inside. I have extra ashtrays and stuff for resale later on, I figured since I was getting some plating done might as well do them too. :beer::beer::beer:

Dibs on an ashtray when they are for sale! Nice work!

Rather than have a bunch of small chrome pieces floating around I thought I would assemble the rear hatch struts today. I found out after chroming that you have to dress out the threads slightly. A Dremel tool with a wire wheel works great on the inside of the tubes. A knife file or a thread file is good for the outside threads. The holding pins on each end need to be driven in with a soft blow hammer and worked in and out a couple times. I went for the gas shock route. I used the IH8MUD Gas Struts for rear lift gate on '73 - Where do you fin 'em?, I ordered the struts for a little over $10 apiece from Adventure RV Gas Spring 50Lb 17 Ext 10.25 Comp W/Plastic Ends - $10.49 I ordered the 5200-50 (just to let you know the link still works ). I whittled them down on my stationary disc sander, the diameter will need to be worked on too so the strut would fit into the smaller tube. I used a piece of red polyurethane as a cushion, and once the gas shock was inserted I would trim the end of the strut to fit flush before installing the end cap .

I just picked it up. I thought I would convert it into wall art for the shop. Too bad it didn't have lenses. I procured a piece of red plexiglass to button it up.

More diversions....:beer::hillbilly::beer:

Now if you had a V-8 going in under the hood, I could understand.

Not far off. I have been in this long enough to remember when George Rice, one of the founding memvers of TLCA showed up at Cal4Wheel convention in 1984 with his Chevota. His donor vehicle was an early '80s K5 Blazer, and he grafted the dual rectangular headlights into the bib and the K5 taillights into the rear quarter panels. It was quite the sight...and quite the controversy.

Uffda.....poor corvette ! That should be in chapter one of what not to do !

Time for an update.
