Super nice, but I used to sell complete pto winch set ups for $650? Guess those days are gone!!

These are extremly rare and it was completly rebuilt. Its like new.
Now, if it needs to be fabricated from scratch it would cost even more and never be oem. Its even cheap considering that its nonexistent

Very nice, however I can buy a complete pto winch for 1,000.00 to 1,250.00. Too much for me. I appreciate the offer.

Thats fine however if you get a complete winch assembly and rebuild it by changing or renewing all moving parts and treat all surfaces it will be 3x the $ when ready. You won't put a rustbucket winchassembly on your truck, would you? This shaft is 1/3 of the assembly if you consider winch, drive, pto the three equally important main parts.
This way... Hmm its not that expensive.
And more, these are extremly rare parts either in use or sold as complete. It has taken me years to find piece by piece and I refurbished them 100% genuine. I managed to get a 3-piece shaft for my H55F recently so this one is excess to my needs. Anyway its only $ for something you always wanted..

I believe that the market will set the price. Someone with more money than I have may purchase it for $800.00. You never know if you don't ask for it. You have the right to ask what ever price you want. I ask a lot for some hard to get parts too. Since you sent me a message telling me you were selling it, I was just replying that is more than I want to pay.

how does that mount?
I thought 40 series mounted under the radiator on the 2 ears.
or is it different for split case units?
it looks like it mounts similar to a 55 series.

It came off a 1979-80 HJ47 troopie. 4speed. All parts oem. The bracket to the chassis is under/behind the radiator.
It would fit all 4X 4speed. 8 bolts, that's what it takes running :)

It's the 1981+ version with split case. It mounts just like the 55's.

The design changed again in 10/82 to include another pillow block bearing with two shorter shafts instead of a single long one. Why the change I'm not sure. The bracket for the second pillow block bolted to the frame like this one and the 55 series. I would have to check my 55 drivesline but think it has the aluminum pillow block housing not steel like the later 4X that mounted to the frame.

Silverstar you're right, first was the alu block than this than the 3 piece.
I examined these thoroughly and the main difference at the 3piece and this is in the joints. These joints are way stronger and robust. It needs the old spider which is larger too. No needle bearings in the spider's cups only grease in a bronze cup. Its very basic design but undestroyable. Also looking at shaft physic the easiest way to turn a shaft if its straight. The more curvs the more joints and more friction. This shaft was suited the 4speed unit with both front and rear switch pto gear. At the later model H55F the pto drive flange is about 3-4" further to the back (5speed is longer). At this model an enlengthened straight shaft would hit the gearbox bracket so they had to brake it. And that was the 3piece shaft from 1982 when the 5speed was introduced.
In the 6X the shaft also 3 piece but the centre shaft has two pillow blocks not like the 4X where shaft-block-shaft-block the pattern. The most succesful kinetic among the shaft systems is the straight one therefore this second gen shaft can take far more load with less struggle and that translates to the gear and winch and weak points ie(sheer pin) as well.

..also the old spiders were greaseable and the late models weren't. The three piece version in overall comparison is a weaker and less ergonomic design. And all this has to do with the introduction of the 5th gear and the extra length it imposed on the driveline. Again, the older the stronger analogy appear to be remembered.

Too much for me, I could buy 800 Snickers bars for that price!

;)

Hi, is still for sale? Do you have a missing part of the shaft - the yoke that connects to the winch? I am interested to buy the complete driveshaft
