I know where this is but don't recall it being a challenge. I didnt make this run last year

Here is the snap shot from the video

Going back through pictures of 2016, this looks like the same spot. Not seeing a big dip from this angle, but looks like the same spot. That is my daughter in her 100 series in front of me.

a zoom on the spot. It does look higher to the right

Wasn't there a video last year of a 4Runner flipping in the same spot? I can't find it... may have been a FB post but looks like the same spot. Gotta roll through those. You can see him hit the brakes as soon as the back end comes up driving his momentum up and over.

Yes, a 4R "fainted" there last year as well. Plenty of armchair quarterbacks in the area who are now all "I didn't realize that was an obstacle" about this section of trail. I've never driven it so I can't comment too much, but consensus seems to be pay attention to tire placement and you're completely fine.

Yep, happened last September while we were out there for Jeep Jamboree. I don’t recall any video of it laying over, but there were several pictures. I think there was some video of the recovery.

Hey LDCD,

I'm a newer 200 owner and this will be my first LDCD event. Looking forward to meeting you guys. I might know a few of you already from Cruise Moab or around Slee's shop.

I have done some of these trails out of Ouray. Our club, High Desert Cruisers, based in New Mexico does an annual event based out of Ouray. Just so happens to be the following week of this event and will be my 4th year joining the HDC folks in Ouray. Looks like I will be getting in some sweet time in the region.

I hope some of you can help me with trail selection or avoidance. Overall, my truck is pretty capable with armor, winch ,35s and all the rest of it. I am a intermediate driver okay doing 6s and 7s during Cruise Moab.

I am a bit skittish of heights. It seems like I do okay on shelf stuff as long as it is not too narrow. I am fine with off camber stuff. But when you put the two together, I just freak out. I have not found too much of this combo on the stuff around Telluride/Ouray, but I know some exists. Never got a chance to do the end of Black Bear - it was raining and our trail leader (Ash Ali) encouraged us to not try it in the rain. I've been told by my fellow HDC friends that I would do fine at the end of Black Bear and I think I am up for it.

So any words of experience on what trails to avoid, with both off camber/shelf at the same time, would be welcomed.

Thanks.

Larry, you will do fine on Blackbear. The off camper shelf that always makes me nervous is on Governers basin/Yankee boy. Its tight and a bit off camber but other than that the trail is pretty easy and scenic.

Nothing I would really avoid

The Alpine loop is a long scenic fun day with nothing to hard. BlackBear isnt really hard. Ask for a spot if you get nervous

Well looks like it's not going to happen for us this year, I did update the sign up list. Maybe next year...

Yup. That’s an easy mistake to make...because your brain is saying “Staaaaahhhppp!” But your truck needs you to Gooooo!

We all have to get past that instinct. I’ve goofed on that before...though never like that poor guy.

It looked like the FJ in the video was very harsh on the brakes and not smooth leading up to the flop, I would bet if they had continued driving forward with no harsh braking, they would have been fine. They definitly took a terrible line though.

to new guys - I wouldnt let this scare you into avoiding Black Bear, wth patience and the right lines all you great 200 guys will be fine. You all have a great group of guys here who really know what they are doing.

Heres the 4runner

Thanks Romer. If I remember correctly, there is an optional auxiliary loop off Governers Basin where I had the issue. Good to know.

Someone mind snagging one for me? I won't make camp in Telluride until Thursday night.

I've not driven it either but when I'm not in the lead I do watch closely the lines of the people in front of me.

From the video it looks like the tire goes into the hole and the truck seems to bounce. Not sure if the rut was deeper than expected, if something on the suspension hit the rock, or what, but forward progress seemed to stop immediately, which caused the rear (already tilted high up) to bounce up.

Yeah, it's really not an obstacle but this section of trail generally consumes 1 or 2 SUVs a year, and has also been known to eat a SxS. As previous comments suggest, when the driver decided to fight gravity by hitting the brakes... gravity won.

Hi, I am looking forward to meeting you all. Can somebody confirm the time and meeting point for the morning of the 25th? I am guessing from the website that the place is the Conoco Parking Lot (37.947714, -107.873162) on Society Drive in Telluride. Not sure about the time. Thanks.

The trail runs start on the 26th out of that parking lot. First group starts at 7:30 and the second group at 8:30. On the 25th, there is a reception at 5-8pm at New Sheridan Historic Bar that Elite Land Cruisers is hosting.
