4lo trac off check engine

What I would do if this happened.

1. Disconnect the battery for 30 MIN(can do wonders sometimes.)
2. Then plug back and start, issue not gone, plug in a OBD Scanner and check for error codes(maybe erase them if possible).
3. Check the obvious sensors like O2(Ive had an issue with a O2 sensor before that triggered the 4LOW light for some reason).
4. Take it to the toyota dealer.

Good luck.

Drove to work today with dash all lit up. Parked in garage. Came back this afternoon and lights cleared on their own.
Figures. Just bought an OBD reader on Amazon today. It arrives tomorrow

@marketShark if you have a low battery, or the truck fails to start you will get erroneous sensor codes.

I got similar codes on the wife's old matrix when the fuel injection started crapping out and it would turn over without firing.

one thing for you guys experiencing 4WD Lo/VSC and CEL lights (and you DON'T have rats) is to check the PVC valve and MAF Sensor. Had the exact same symptoms - changed PVC and cleared codes - all (fingers crossed) good now.

had these come on for second time couple days ago, didnt even have time to go to get codes read before gone, but i'll check PVC and MAF anyway

Dang...month and a half/ approx 1k m later - dash lights/check VSC came on again (installed new PCV). Was about 3/4 way into a 300m drive.

Anyone else get a recurrence?

Thanks - I'm thinking this CEL (same code) may be a result of a dirty MAF; will clean and see how it goes. I can't help but think this crazy lo viscosity oil is causing all kinds of blow by (never seen a PVC so gunky). Thinking of going to 0-30....

I run 5w-20 but lots of people have been running 5w-30 in the 5.7 for years.

Thanks, 89, appreciate the feed back. Quick question - as the blow by is typically at operating temp (vs start up) why still a 20 weight - can certainly understand a 30 weight? And if a lo visc is what one wants to really flow easily at start up - why a 5 and not a 0 weight?

Thanks, just trying to figure what's best for this truck....

I don't have anything special. It's just a cheap unit from Harbor Freight...but it gives brief on-screen descriptions of what each code indicates when run.
Also easy to reset.

I'm considering a full-time bluetooth reader though, since the apps it works with provide far more info.
Try icarsoft i905

Hi I got a icarsoft i905 scan tool really good why better than Bluetooth app which are pain in the ass sometimes communication error. Try icarsoft i905 .

Ya, I’ve tried Bluetooth and WiFi based, fancy code readers via phone and went back to my good-ole hard wired cheapie. I did add an on/off switch in the line, though, since it eats power if left plugged in. With the switch...it’s always plugged in, but is disconnected via the switch. It’s literally just a few seconds to turn on...scan...and clear codes if needed.

Rats

They hit all my vehicles. Tractor. Polaris
LC 200
Comprehensive Insurance covers this.
But your car will be at the dealer for a good week.
This was what I found on my LC

Anyone know what connectors these are?

Thank you Mud Brethern! I had the same symptoms (Trac Off, flashing 4Lo, and check engine) on our 2013 200 with 120k miles. After reading this post, I remembered Pearl (the LC) had the original Panasonic battery. Figured I'd swap it for the battery in the FJ Cruiser (same size), and sure enough, no more messages/lights! Now to get a new battery.

Well, after just a bit, the same lights came back on. Took her to the dealer this morning, and was diagnosed with air injection pump/valve issues. Ugh...
