Ok it is rat damage. It chewed a knock sensor wire under intake. 900+$

Ouch!! What a bummer. :bang:
On the brighter side...they could have chewed through a heck of a lot more...

Time to set traps and grab a BB gun... it's been target practice in my back yard tangerine tree... Fat little guys gorging themselves on me citrus. Grrr. But dang if this little BB gun doesn't do wonders!

At least they go out fat & happy... :hillbilly:

The harness is like $40. $900 sounds crazy. You do have to remove the intake manifold, but it is a 2 hr repair.

Same thing happened to mine within 2 weeks of purchase. My costs were a little less... but very little. To get to the harness, they have to lift the engine... at least that is what I was told when I said it more like...

WHAT??? THAT'S CRAZY!!! :bang::bang::bang:

"Oh, and that's not going to be covered by the warranty"... have a nice day.

Yeah, that does NOT feel good!

You have to remove the intake manifold. You can even reuse the gasket from what I understand. Many Tundra owners report a fairly simple DIY.

Saw that in your first post. BUT, I thought it might help the original poster to know that he was not the only one being told such things...

Understood. I thought it would be helpful to clarify that the process is indeed fairly simple, and definitely no reason to lift the engine.

^^ Valid comment.

holy crap i never thought this would happen to me. i have same issue... i started the truck couple days ago and it lit up like x'mas tree. i check scan gauge and it said knock sensor. so i searched this board and saw this, i blew it and said nah.... not rats. gotta be something else. i opened the hood today just to check for no reason. i freakin' saw the rat crawling under the plastic cover of the intake. i was no fxxxin way this is happening to me. yeah.... so it's going to the dealer or a toyota shop thursday. sucks....

Try insurance claim. Just a thought.

why insurance claim? under comprehensive or home insurance? can you give me more info?

Probably comprehensive for damage caused by rodents. I am just speculating not sure either.

Reviving this for another possibility/solution. Had the same three conditions yesterday. Blinking 4LO, Trac off, Check Engine. Cause was a loose gas cap. Tightened cap, reset codes. Good to go.

I have had the LC in storage for a few weeks. I hopped in this afternoon and did not have quite enough battery charge to start it. All the dash lights came on... I turned it off, connected a lithium starting battery (Weego brand) and it fired up with no issues, but I was staring at a blinking 4LO and Trac off, Check Engine light on the dash. I ran the errand completing some time on the highway, and a few starts. The Land Cruiser was running fine, but the dash lights stayed on. While out, and out of curiosity, I put it in neutral will stationary. I tried shifting to 4LO and it did not shift, so I put it back in 4Hi. I had no trouble driving the truck in any way and the transmission shifted in its regular fashion. After returning home, I disconnected the battery, waited about an hour, then reconnected it, started the truck and all was good--no dash lights and it shifts into low range as normal.

Years ago I had a battery which was failing in my FJ Cruiser. I was on the road in western Colorado trying to make it to Grand Junction for a replacement. As the battery weakened various systems began failing during the drive. Traction Control was one of them. By the time I got to GJ the FJ was barely running. Dropping in a new battery brought all systems back to life. Today's episode was similar--low battery and systems fail.

I just suffered from this. Driving home from Fort Worth, car went into limp mode and dash lit up like this. I was told by the Toyota dealership that it was the Secondary Air Injection Valve and it is a $2500 fix. Purchased the bypass kit and had my vehicle towed over to my guy here in Dallas to do the install...

Will update on how that goes.

Just happened tonight. 10 consecutive days of non- use. First and second cranks, nothing. Finally started after third attempt. Checked under the hood, all wires and cables in good shape, no indication of rodents under there.
Battery installed 8/14, going to Toss it on the trickle charger for the night and see what tomorrow brings.
If same issues, will get codes read. To be continued...

Get a code reader.

This same series of dash lights come on for me...whether it's evaporator codes being thrown, or O2 sensors...the same goofy lights come on with check VSC. I clear the codes, and all is right with the world again. Several of us started seeing these lights due to evap after Moab last year.

What code reader do you like Mark? Need to add that to my list of junk to toss in the drawers. I grabbed this little portable battery tester, and it's pretty handy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0ARG3X/?tag=ihco-20

I don't have anything special. It's just a cheap unit from Harbor Freight...but it gives brief on-screen descriptions of what each code indicates when run.
Also easy to reset.

I'm considering a full-time bluetooth reader though, since the apps it works with provide far more info.

This just started here too, CEL, VSC, and blinky 4-lo. Truck otherwise runs fine, except it will not go into low. Resetting by disconnecting battery makes it go away, but only very temporarily. The codes I throw are p0420 and p0430- emission codes I believe. I could only reset the 420 code, the p0430 would not clear, however when I did try to clear all lights go off and OBDII still registers the one code. I think I spilled some VP C110 that I was getting rid of into the charcoal cannister spill off thingy..in fact I know I did... someone on here had the same code after unattended fill up (over fill up) at gas pump went south. I believe he replaced the charcoal canister that sits above the spare and everything returned to normal. FWIW.. I also just turned 150k on an ‘11. I’ll post more as I get further into it.
